Seize The Opportunity!

Have you ever had the experience of wanting to talk to someone, but decided to finish what you were doing first, only to eventually turn and realize they were gone? The intent was good, but while you focused on your own stuff they SLIPPED AWAY along with the opportunity. The opportunity may present itself again, however there are situations when the last opportunity may have SLIPPED BY. It is important to recognize that some opportunities must be given higher priority than whatever else we might be doing.

Through Isaiah we have the following exhortation.
“Seek the LORD WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND; call upon him WHILE HE IS NEAR.” ( Isaiah 55:6 ESV)

Here was a focus toward present opportunity to seek and call upon God. The calling seems to imply an action stronger than the seeking. Also, the “while he is near” is even more encouraging than the “while he may be found” because it implies we can call out to Him right from where we are presently.

Through Isaiah, God’s wonderful and very open invitation had been extended. ( Isaiah 55:1) The blessing God had in mind for His people was also made clear in the succeeding verses. The warning to be taken to heart is that if we fail to seek God now He may eventually be hidden from us and if we do not call on Him now we may become so separated from Him that He will no longer listen to us. A time of God’s judgment is coming and today presents an opportunity we dare not chance having SLIP AWAY from us.

It is an awful chance we take -- a dangerous gamble with our very soul -- when we think we have plenty of time and many opportunities to seek and call upon God when we have finished with all the other stuff we want to do. Perhaps the younger we are the more inclined we may be to focus such, however it is not an attitude only found amongst youth. Let us NOT NEGLECT the opportunities God is presently providing us to turn and follow in His Will. A more convenient time (note Acts 24:25) may never come.
