In Our Hands!

You take an ordinary individual, even a timid person, and place something powerfully in their hands and quite often a transformation is seen. Like Tim Allen from the television show “Home Improvement”, when he had some tool he had tweaked to give it MORE POWER, he felt ready to launch into anything no matter how big the job may have seemed. Some, when given a little extra authority will sometimes take on an aura of POWER and confidence they had never exhibited before. To recognize something of POWER being placed in our hands should contribute to a sense of confidence and privilege as it is utilized properly.

As Paul wrote to the church at Corinth he reminded them of his having come to them not with lofty speech or wisdom, but simply in the truth of the message of the cross. ( 1 Corinthians 2:1-3) He had come in weakness, fear, and trembling in a way which should have revealed clearly there was no POWER in and of Paul himself, because the real POWER rested with God. ( 1 Corinthians 2:3-5)

Writing to the church at Rome Paul stated…
“(16) For I am not ashamed of THE GOSPEL, for IT IS THE POWER OF GOD FOR SALVATION to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (17) For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’” ( Romans 1:16-17 ESV)

The POWER of the Gospel message does not rest on us, but in the truth of Christ and the salvation He came to provide. It is the message we as Christians have accepted and are to hold out to those around us. Certainly, some who refuse to accept it may think it foolishness. (i.e. 1 Corinthians 1:18) Nevertheless, it is the message we are to continue to be active in sharing.

The Apostles were ordinary men ( Acts 4:13), but they were given a POWERFUL message to proclaim. Their acceptance of the truth and their being convicted by it EMPOWERED them to boldly share it. May we also look beyond ourselves and simply let the POWER of the Gospel do its work as we live it and verbally share it with those with whom God brings us into contact. There is no MORE POWERFUL message to bring change to the lives of mankind than the truth that has come from God.
