God's Righteous Word!
God’s Word! Many people love it while others hate it. It is used by many as a guide for life though some use all of it while others take only the parts they want. Some seek the pure truth contained within it while others twist its meaning to their own destruction. (note 2 Peter 3:16)
Recently a decision was made by the Colorado State Supreme Court to change the sentence of a man convicted of murder and rape because a Bible had been taken into the jury room during deliberation. After the jurors were instructed by the judge to make an “INDIVIDUAL MORAL ASSESSMENT”, the Bible was researched and discussed by the jurors before deciding the man should be sentenced to death. The Supreme Court of the State of Colorado (in a 3 to 2
decision) stated the jurors had acted improperly when they consulted the Bible and changed the man’s sentence to life without parole simply because the Bible had been brought into the picture. I guess an “INDIVIDUAL MORAL ASSESSMENT” is only valid if it is based on something other than God’s Word.
One of the things which strikes me most about this case is that the Bible used to be used in our country’s courtrooms to swear people in when they were going to testify in court. Now it appears the Bible has no place in the juror deliberation room. Perhaps if God’s Wisdom was recognized more there would be fewer court cases to be deliberated.
What has happened to the MORAL COMPASS of this day and age? How can a world find its way that uses a MORAL COMPASS which points any direction one chooses? Praise God HIS MORAL COMPASS still points in the true direction of godliness and holiness ( 2 Peter 3:11), the manner in which we are to conduct our lives.
The Hebrew writer’s words are still true…
“For THE WORD OF GOD IS LIVING AND ACTIVE, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
( Hebrews 4:12 ESV)
Regardless of what the rest of the world does, let us continue to rely upon the power and wisdom of God’s Word. Does it make sense to ignore the “MORAL ASSESSMENT” of life from the One Who created it? May we allow God’s MORAL COMPASS to remain living and active in our life.
Have a great day ACCEPTING GOD’S MORAL ASSESSMENT REGARDING LIFE!
Carl
