A Law!

There are times when something is observed and someone exclaims, “There ought to be a law!” Laws help bring a sense of order to life. A society without some rules would be nothing but chaos. Established laws help us know what is expected and what consequences might be met if the laws are ignored.

After warning the church at Galatia regarding the works of the flesh and the consequence for those who practice such ( Galatians 5:19-21), Paul went on to state…
“(22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness, self-control; AGAINST SUCH THINGS THERE IS NO LAW.” ( Galatians 5:22-23 ESV)

Now those are some good works. However, did you note Paul’s statement regarding law? He wrote, “Against such things there is no law.” Who would possibly think of making a law against love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? Who wouldn’t think those were good things? Also consider how many laws might not be necessary if everyone lived lives producing such fruit as this! We have complete freedom to practice these in our life. By living such before God, keeping in step with the Spirit, there is no law to condemn us for producing such fruit in our life.
