Honest Perspective!
David remarked…
“(3) When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, (4) WHAT IS MAN THAT YOU ARE MINDFUL OF HIM, and the son of man that you care for him?” ( Psalm 8:3-4)
When we consider the greatness of God we may rightfully be struck by our own smallness. To hold such a view can cause us to wonder why there is so much arrogance in this world. However, arrogance has long been a problem with humanity and will perhaps continue to be one of mankind’s greatest downfalls. When God and self are not kept in perspective there will surely be problems.
Someone has stated, “Those who know God will be humble. Those who know themselves cannot be proud.” [source: sentence sermons]
We know our weaknesses. We know our struggles. We know our imperfections. What is there in ourselves of which we could boast? Certainly, when we consider our salvation there is no room for boasting ( Ephesians 2:9), but only thanksgiving to God for His gracious provision. We know what we deserve. Praise God for His great mercy toward us.
Peter exhorted…
“(6) HUMBLE YOURSELVES, therefore, UNDER THE MIGHTY HAND OF GOD so that at the proper time HE MAY EXALT YOU, (7) casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” ( 1 Peter 5:6-7 ESV)
If we elevate ourselves we will begin to lose perspective. On the other hand, as we maintain a sense of HUMILITY, God will lift us up as He sees fit and in accordance with His timing. Though we ought to HUMBLY acknowledge our smallness compared to God, we should be greatly encouraged by the fact He is mindful of us, does care, and desires for us to spend a glorious eternity with Him. May we guard against allowing self to get in the way of His plans.
Have a great day KEEPING GOD’S GREATNESS IN VIEW!
Carl
