Fill The Pockets!
The story is told of a man who was walking in the desert when he heard a voice tell him, “Pick up some pebbles and put them into your pocket, and tomorrow you will be both sorry and glad.” The man obediently bent down and picked up a handful of pebbles and put them in his pocket. The next day he reached into his pocket to find diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. And just as he was told he would be, he was both glad and sorry. He was glad he had taken some, but sorry he had not taken more. [adapted from bulletin clipping]
Solomon noted…
“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but A GOOD WORD MAKES HIM GLAD.” ( Proverbs 12:25 ESV)
Is there any word which should make us more glad and rejoice more than the WORD OF GOD. It is the message which imparts the greatest wisdom, provides the soundest guidance, and offers an unfailing hope that transcends this realm into a glorious eternity. To fill our lives with GOD’S WORD will provide the richest benefits to body, mind, and spirit we could possibly gain. We should therefore take advantage of all the opportunities we have, both privately and publicly, to gather in as much of the WORD as we can.
Note Paul’s prayer for the church at Colossae.
“(9) And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may BE FILLED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL IN ALL SPIRITUAL WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING, (10) so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD.” ( Colossians 1:9-10 ESV)
Such an aim does not lead to disappointment, but to the abiding joy of walking in a manner pleasing to God. Let us rejoice for the knowledge we have received while continuing to fill ourselves with even more. May we continue to fill the pockets of our heart and mind with the precious jewels of GOD’S WORD with every opportunity presented.
Have a great day RECEIVING THE RICH BLESSINGS OF GOD’S MESSAGE!
