Being Right!
As Moses recounted to the nation of Israel the experience around the mountain when God gave the Law to Moses and the people heard the voice of God from the midst of the fire ( Deuteronomy 4:11-12), he reminded them of the response to God. With regard to the commands Moses received from God, the people stated their willingness to listen and do all that the Lord spoke. ( Deuteronomy 5:27) What a worthy aim!
Moses went on to remind…
“(28) And the Lord heard your words, when you spoke to me. And the Lord said to me, ‘I have heard the words of this people, which they have spoken to you. THEY ARE RIGHT IN ALL THAT THEY HAVE SPOKEN. (29) OH THAT THEY HAD SUCH A MIND AS THIS ALWAYS, to fear me and to keep all my commandments, that it might go well with them and with their descendants forever!” ( Deuteronomy 5:28-29 ESV)
The people were right in speaking a willingness to submit to God’s commands. They were right to declare their readiness to obey whatever He spoke. However, for how long did they actually follow through? There was the need to focus on RETAINING SUCH A MIND SET. God’s desire has always been for His people to listen to Him (i.e. Psalm 81:13) and obey. Not merely when it is convenient for us. Not only when it suits us. But “always”, because that is what is right and ultimately brings the highest blessings into our lives.
Life is not to be all about what we want, but what God desires. He is the author and creator of life. He is the sustainer of life. He is the One Who has set in place a plan for eternal life. He has done all this with us in mind, but it is by keeping our MIND SET on God and His Will that we can remain on track.
Paul exhorted the church at Philippi…
“(12) Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, (13) for IT IS GOD WHO WORKS IN YOU, BOTH TO WILL AND TO WORK FOR HIS GOOD PLEASURE.” ( Philippians 2:12-13 ESV)
It is always right to seek to please God. For the Israelites to have RETAINED A MIND SET to do the Will of God, it was declared that things would go well with them. How can we expect things to go well for us if we ignore God’s Will. May we KEEP OUR MIND SET on the pleasure of God at work in and through us as we continue to surrender our life to Him Who has the ultimate power over it and its eternal destiny.
Have a great day PLEASED TO PLEASE GOD!
