Give It A Shot!
A couple items I try to keep handy around our house are a roll of duct tape and a can of WD-40®. With these two items I am prepared to either hold things firmly together or allow others to work more smoothly. As the can of WD-40® states: “Stops Squeaks, Protects Metal, Loosens Rusted Parts, Frees Sticky Mechanisms”.
We have a sliding glass door which periodically becomes hard to open. It can get so difficult that even with both hands and a little grunting the door will hardly budge. In that condition this door to our deck becomes a real source of frustration. When the challenge first occurred I lifted the heavy glass door out of its track and tried adjusting the rollers on the bottom. After doing this several times I remembered my can of WD-40® and decided to spray a little along the door’s track and found that was all it really needed. Now, at the first sign of sticking, I merely give the lower track of this door a few shots of WD-40® which then allows it to be easily slide open with the strength of just one finger!
Perhaps you have experienced a bicycle wheel, wagon wheel, wheel to a cart, or some other moveable object which seemed very sluggish. Then with just a few drops of oil or a shot from a can of WD-40® the work is taken out of making the wheel turn or object move.
Perhaps we wish there was a can of something we could spray on our life to help us move through situations easier. Someone has state, “Cheerfulness greases the axles of the world.” [source: listing of sentence sermons]
There are all sorts of tasks we find ourselves having to do; some being more pleasant than others. Nevertheless they are things which must be done. Approaching them with an attitude of groaning and moaning never makes them go any smoother. But when approached with the CHEERFUL attitude of one who seeks to always do their best to the glory of God (i.e. Ephesians 6:7), some of the laboriousness may be taken out of the work.
Solomon stated…
“All the days of the afflicted are evil, but THE CHEERFUL OF HEART HAS A CONTINUAL FEAST.” ( Proverbs 15:15 ESV)
Many things may attempt to aggravate us. Some things may feel to be a real burden. To change such things is not always within our power. However, the attitude with which we approach these situations or tasks can make a world of difference is how we get through them.
Just back a couple verses Solomon pointed out…
“A GLAD HEART MAKES A CHEERFUL FACE, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed.” ( Proverbs 15:13 ESV)
The spirit with which we go about our daily tasks can greatly impact how we get through them. Next time we have something that has to be done, let us give it a shot of CHEERFULNESS and see the difference it makes. Doing things with complaining and grumbling (note Philippians 2:14) will only add weight and create drag, thus making the work even harder. Let us keep our focus on all we do being done to the glory of God that we may receive the “oil of gladness” ( Isaiah 61:3) being in His favor provides. It is the CHEERFUL HEART that can lubricate the wheels of our actions as we go about our day to day tasks with the sincere desire to be faithful servants of God with regard to whatever is at hand. May it be so in our life.
Have a great day SERVING TO GOD’S GLORY LIKE A WELL OILED MACHINE!
