Feeding The Hunger!
Regarding the discussion of our physical health, there is a lot of advise that gets passed around. The internet is full of health information, some of which is not sound advise and it may be difficult to sort through it all. It is therefore important to be careful what advise we accept. When it comes to dealing with colds or fever I have heard the statement made, “Feed a cold and starve a fever or perhaps it is the other way around.” Which is it? Where is the certainty?
Someone has said, “Feed your faith and your doubts will starve to death.” [original source unknown] Feeding to starve may sound like an odd concept, but in this case it is true. The WORD of God is to our lives what food is to our bodies. As our bodies distribute what we eat to every cell of the body, so the WORD needs to touch and give life to every aspect of our being. And by feeding our faith, fear and worry will not receive what they need to survive.
Paul stated…
“So FAITH COMES FROM HEARING, and hearing through THE WORD OF CHRIST.” ( Romans 10:17 ESV)
Though many pills and special drinks have been marketed as substitutes for healthy eating, there is just no substitute for time spent in the WORD of God. If many spent as little time eating as they do in the Word, the toll on their bodies would quickly become evident.
Jesus encouraged…
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is of no avail. THE WORDS THAT I HAVE SPOKEN TO YOU ARE SPIRIT AND LIFE.” ( John 6:63 ESV)
Are we reading? Are we listening? Are we gaining the spiritual nourishment God has provided? What is it that fills our plate to nourish the life?
May we be like Peter who declared to the Lord…
“Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? YOU HAVE THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE,” ( John 6:68 ESV)
It might not hurt some of us to miss a meal now and then. However, let us never neglect regular time spent feasting on the WORD of God.
Have a great day PROPERLY NOURISHED FOR LIFE ETERNAL!
Carl
