The Quest for Gain!

People pursue a wide variety of things in this life. And we may take note of those we feel are living in excess while others have very little. It has even been noted that “There is an excess of everything but parking space and godliness.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie] The first is that which we might diligently seek to fill when we are out and about. The latter is what we ought to seek for GOD TO FILL in our life.

There are many who think when they have much money and prestige (and some to spare) that they have it made. Nevertheless, how many who live in excess give little thought to God and still seem to live with a lack of contentment? When life is not being FILLED with the right stuff a restless hunger will continue regardless of how much is possessed. Lives can be filled with many things with little true or lasting satisfaction.

As Paul wrote to Timothy he pointed to true gain when he stated…
“(6) Now there is GREAT GAIN IN GODLINESS with contentment,(7) for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.” ( 1 Timothy 6:6-7 ESV)

The truest gain comes when we allow GOD TO FILL us with all that pertains to godliness. (note 2 Peter 1:3-4) The greatest gain we could possibly possess is that of being more like the essence of His image and living a life that reveals a clear understanding of His sovereign Will. And in the process of gaining godliness (a possession of inestimable value for life now and eternity) contentment comes as a natural byproduct of our faith in God’s continued provision.

When we realize the great blessings that are ours in our relationship to God we are better able to perceive what it is that matters most. Our highest gain is found in that relationship and through allowing godly character to continue to develop. May we seek for our manner of living to fill some of the void of godliness in this present age. God can make us adequate for the task.

Have a great day FINDING SUFFICIENCY IN GOD’S BLESSINGS!
