Staying the Course!
The Scriptures tells us…
“Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but IT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE LORD THAT WILL STAND.” ( Proverbs 19:21ESV)
We plan. We revise our plans. We prepare backup plans in case the first plan fails. However, that is not the case with God. He sets a plan in motion and stays the course. But how content are we to TRUST THE PLAN OF GOD?
God made a promise to Abraham. He had a plan. God was going to make Abraham into a great nation and his offspring would inherit the promised land. ( Genesis 12:2 & 7) However, Abraham was seventy-five years old when he headed to the land of Canaan and received this promise from God. ( Genesis 12:4-5) Was there a need for an alternate plan?
Abraham suggested to God a possible “Plan B.” Abraham thought one of his servants could end up being his heir. ( Genesis 15:2-3) Even so, God remained firm that Abraham would have offspring and there was therefore no need for an alternate plan. ( Genesis 15:4-6) And Abraham BELIEVED GOD.
Nevertheless, time went on. Did God indeed need some help with a backup plan? Sarah came up with a possible “Plan C.” She suggested to Abraham that perhaps he could have offspring through her servant Hagar. ( Genesis 16:2) Even Abraham seemed content with the possibility that Ishmael be his offspring through whom the promise of God would be fulfilled. (Genesis
17:18) Still, God had a plan and would stay the course. ( Genesis 17:19) Even though Abraham was one-hundred and Sarah was ninety ( Genesis 17:17), God declared that “Sarah your wife shall bear you a son” and God would establish His covenant with him and his offspring. ( Genesis 17:19)
When we look at life and find ourselves questioning or wondering about GOD’S PLANS, perhaps, like Abraham, what we need to do is look up and begin counting the stars. ( Genesis 15:5) Since God has set a plan in motion and needs no backup plans, but rather will stay the course of His sovereign purpose, we ought to TRUST THE PLAN OF GOD in every aspect, making certain we are following along in it. Let us keep BELIEVING!
Have a great day CONTENT WITH THE SOVEREIGN INTENT OF GOD!
