Seeing the Big Picture!
There are COSTS involved in many things. However, the COST of not doing some things can be much greater than the COST associated with doing them. For example, to not spend the money to build a house well or maintain a vehicle could bring the more expensive COST of complete replacement and the loss of all initial investment. There are also many things which may be quite expensive at the time of implementation which end up saving much in the long run. When COST is being considered the whole picture needs to be viewed.
As Jesus addressed the idea of the COST of following Him, He noted some general examples regarding the wisdom of counting the COST in life. ( Luke 14:28-33) By doing so, Jesus was not trying to discourage people from following, but was instead emphasizing the serious and sincere consideration that must be given to following Him. The reality is that the highest COST is associated with the refusal to follow.
On another occasion Jesus warned…
“(36) For WHAT DOES IT PROFIT a man TO GAIN the WHOLE WORLD AND FORFEIT HIS LIFE? (37) For what can a man give in return for his life? (38) For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” ( Mark 8:36-38 ESV)
There is no denying the fact following Jesus has its COSTS. But do we recognize that in the end it will surely be worth it all? To not follow carries a much higher price tag than following. May we continue to keep the bigger picture in view as we make our daily choices in life.
Have a great day CHOOSING TO CONTINUE THE FOLLOWING!
