Blessed Inclusion!
As Abraham, in obedient faith, left his home to follow where God would lead, the promise was made that through his seed all nations of the earth would be blessed. ( Genesis 12:2-4; 15:5) That covenant promise was repeated to Abraham’s son Isaac ( Genesis 26:4) and then to Isaac’s son Jacob ( Genesis 28:13-14) revealing the unchanging intent of God.
As the history of God’s people and His blessing upon those who would obediently acknowledge Him would unfold, God even revealed to Abraham Israel ’s 400 years of affliction in Egypt. ( Genesis 15:13) However, God also made it clear that He would lead the people out to the promised land and as we read of the Exodus from Egypt we see God gloriously providing for His people Israel.
When the nation came to Mount Sinai we read…
“(5) Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be MY TREASURED POSSESSION among all peoples, for all the earth is mine; (6) and you shall be to me A KINGDOM OF PRIESTS and A HOLY NATION. These are the words that you shall speak to the people of Israel.” ( Exodus 19:5-6 ESV)
This is what Moses was to tell the people. What a special relationship God desired to have with His people! What a blessed status He would provide for them! What a marvelous essence was to characterize their lives. But such is also the blessed state in which He has placed us in Christ.
Note the similar words stated by Peter.
“But you are A CHOSEN RACE, a ROYAL PRIESTHOOD, a HOLY NATION, a people for HIS OWN POSSESSION, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” ( 1 Peter 2:9 ESV)
Thus we should clearly see the broad extent of the promise God had made to Abraham. What a blessing we possess through the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham through Christ! In Christ we have become heirs of that promise ( Galatians 3:29) and therefore viewed by God as a CHOSEN, PRIESTLY, and HOLY people. May such character truly be exhibited in our daily lives.
Have a great day LIVING TO REVEAL THE EXCELLENCIES OF GOD!
