End or Beginning?
Today is the last day of the year 2004. This year seems to have passed by very quickly. For me it has been a year full of many diverse activities; some exhilarating and others challenging. I had experiences with family which will continue to be impacting because of the depth of love we share for each other, as well as for God and His Will. I also had wonderful experiences with God’s family within the congregation here in Port Townsend, WA., spending a week with the teens during this past summer’s Senior Teen Session of Delano Bay Christian Camp, speaking at the annual Cider Press Youth Rally in Cashmere, WA., and to connect with people like yourself via e-mail. Though I know I will probably never meet many of you this side of heaven, you have become a blessing of God to my life. I want to thank you for your continued interest in the daily “teEn-MAIL” focuses and for the encouragement you have provided me through your e-mail responses to particular focuses and for your prayers. I continue to pray that I may both exhort and encourage you as God touches my heart through His Word each day. He continues to be the One Who keeps this phase of my ministry going.
As Christians we can be encouraged that no date on the calendar is truly the end! With every day God grants us, we can approach each dawn as a NEW BEGINNING while we live life with a view toward a glorious eternity with Him. Realizing we cannot change the things of the past -- but can learn from and be encouraged by them -- each new day can be accepted as a fresh opportunity for renewal. Every day is a gift from God for us to unwrap and use to the best of our ability and to His glory. May we BEGIN each one God provides with a focus in His Word and with prayer.
God instructed Moses to give Aaron and his sons a priestly blessing to be offered for the people of Israel. I would like to pass those words on to you as my prayer and wish for you as we step forward into that which is yet to come.
“(24) The LORD bless you and keep you; (25) the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; (26) the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26 ESV)
Have a great BEGINNING TO A GLORIOUS FUTURE WITH GOD!

Room For Mercy?
If it weren’t for the mercy of God, where would we be? However, as much as we appreciate God’s mercy, how often has man been negligent in extending it to others? As we look through the Scriptures there are many examples where more mercy seems to have been associated with God’s commands than what we see associated with the rules and regulations established by man. We even have laws and rules today which are sometimes held to very rigidly without the exercise of common sense. One example of such is the grade school child who was suspended for having brought an action figure to school that held a very small toy gun. The school had a zero gun tolerance policy. Then there was the girl who was suspended for having brought scissors to school which she had purchased as one of the items on her school supply list. Someone apparently viewed them as a possible weapon. And I’m sure we could each come up with other examples where good rules were in place, but common sense was not exercised in their enforcement.
The Pharisees had come up with many regulations surrounding the keeping of the Sabbath and were quick to accuse Jesus and His disciples for any violation of “their” rules. On one occasion the Pharisees observed Jesus’
disciples picking grain as they walked through a field. The disciples were hungry and the law allowed for such as long as it was only for eating on the spot. (note Deuteronomy 23:24-25) What the Pharisees saw as “unlawful” was that this picking was being done on a Sabbath. (Matthew 12:1-2)
Note part of Jesus’ response to their accusation.
“(3) He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: (4) how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it WAS NOT LAWFUL for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests?” (Matthew 12:3-4)
David was held in high honor among the Jews. There was no way they were going to be critical of David. However, Jesus noted how at a desperate time David and his men ate what was only authorized for the priests. (1 Samuel 21:1-7) It appears that in this case PRESERVATION OF LIFE was more important than the regulation. It was a one time thing. David and his men did not make it a continuing practice. Yet here were the Pharisees (based on their own regulations of what constituted work on the Sabbath) being quick to judge the disciples for picking a few heads of grain to eat on the Sabbath. Jesus went on to quote from Hosea 6:6 the words “I DESIRE MERCY, AND NOT SACRIFICE.”
Certainly it is possible to take a good concept to the extreme and make it dangerously wrong. We need to be careful we are not lax regarding what God has commanded. His commands are to be taken seriously. On the other hand we also must realize it is possible to sacrifice or refrain from a number of things and still not be right with God. Could we be guilty of being rigid in situations when compassion and mercy are what is most needed? All God’s commands are good. His principles can be easily applied to all aspects of our life. But in the process of upholding them let us not forget the value of LIFE and the impact we can have on others toward the salvation of their souls. According to God’s Word we can discern between what is right and wrong. However, there are some situations where it is best to leave the final judgment up to God. The encouragement we have from Him is that mercy triumphs over judgment. (James 2:13) Praise God for the mercy He has extended and will extend to us!
Have a great day SHARING THE COMPASSION OF CHRIST!

Self-Improvement!
When it comes to self-improvement, where do we turn? Bookstore shelves are filled with self-help books and certainly there is some benefit which can be gained from such reading. However, an important key to self-help is recognizing the need for help beyond ourselves.
Someone has stated, “People seldom improve when they have no model but themselves to copy after.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie] If we are going to improve in character, we need a STANDARD higher than ourselves. For us to follow our own inclinations will elevate our activity no higher than our own desires. To rely upon our own reasoning for life will make us no wiser than what we already understand. Improvement of self ultimately comes from looking higher than self.
Paul exhorted the Corinthian brethren to…
“Be IMITATORS of me, as I am OF CHRIST.” (1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV)
The only way Paul could be a worthy example for others was if he continued to imitate Christ. The life of Christ was the STANDARD Paul kept in view for living his own life. It is to be the same with us. Christ is the safe STANDARD by which to model our lives because in Him we find a perfect example. Unlike ourselves, the example of Christ needs no improvement. There is nothing unholy, untrue, or unwise associated with Him. And since the ultimate goal is for us to be like Him (i.e. 2 Corinthians 3:18; 1 John 3:2) we must continue to aim to model our lives after Him.
We can never improve upon Christ’s STANDARD, but modeling our lives after His life will gradually bring about the greatest improvement to self we could possible gain. May we continually strive to model our lives after His perfect example.
Have a great day AIMING TO LIVE LIKE CHRIST!

Servant Goal!
As we approach the coming of a new year, many may be focusing on resolutions and setting goals to accomplish during the weeks, months, and years that lie ahead. Some of these goals may be with a focus toward pleasing self. However, how such choices will impact those we have a relationship with also needs to be given serious consideration. Since we, as Christians, claim to be servants of Christ, we should seek to please Him as we consider our plans. He is the best Master we could possibly ask for and we should therefore strive to be the best servants we can be to His glory and praise.
As Paul focused on seeking God’s approval in his life, he noted that had he been trying to please men he would not have been a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10) And as we look at the account of Paul’s ministry it is not hard to see how much of a SERVANT HEART he had. Paul’s actions, attitude, and words reflected the Will of the Master he humbly served.
In his first letter to the church at Thessalonica, Paul stated…
“(3) For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, (4) but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so WE SPEAK, NOT TO PLEASE MAN, BUT TO PLEASE GOD WHO TESTS OUR HEARTS.” (1 Thessalonians 2:3-4 ESV)
Ultimately Paul recognized his HEART was an open book before God. What we do and what we say may cause others to think we are servants of Christ, but what about our HEART? If the HEART can pass the test, the rest of our life will remain true to the goal! The Master we love is the one we will serve. (Matthew 6:24) Therefore, as we set our goals, let us seek to maintain a SERVANT HEART that will humbly, lovingly, and faithfully yield to the sovereign Will of God.
Have a great day MAINTAINING A HEART FOR SERVICE TO GOD!

All Smiles!
There are many things which may put a smile on our face. Perhaps we each had a number of experiences over the last few days which caused us to smile. Watching our grandchildren get excited about gifts they received quickly brought smiles to our faces, especially when that excitement was over something we had given them. We very much APPROVED of their reaction.
When it comes to smiling, we should consider who is doing it and why. Someone has stated “The world’s smiles are more dangerous than its frowns.” [source: a sentence sermon] When a smile declares APPROVAL is it always for that which should receive it? Whose APPROVAL we allow to influence our lives is of utmost importance to consider. Not all smiles correspond with that which God APPROVES.
Jesus cautioned…
“WOE TO YOU, WHEN ALL PEOPLE SPEAK WELL OF YOU, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.” (Luke 6:26 ESV)
Note this passage from two other translations.
“WHAT SORROWS AWAIT YOU WHO ARE PRAISED BY THE CROWDS, for their ancestors also praised false prophets.” [New Living Translation, © 1997, Wheaton, Ill.: Tyndale House]
“THERE’S TROUBLE AHEAD WHEN YOU LIVE ONLY FOR THE APPROVAL OF OTHERS, SAYING WHAT FLATTERS THEM, DOING WHAT INDULGES THEM. Popularity contests are not truth contests -- look how many scoundrel preachers were approved by your ancestors! YOUR TASK IS TO BE TRUE, NOT POPULAR.” [from “The Message”: The Bible in contemporary language. Colorado Springs, Colo.:
NavPress]
Is the point clear? Just as it was during the days Jesus walked this earth, there are still many today who are seeking the praise of man rather than the praise of God. (John 12:43) Even some who believe (John 12:42) allow the greater influence to be what others think rather than what God has APPROVED. It is truly a sorrowful sight when the world smiles while God frowns. Life is not to be a popularity contest unless it is with God Whom we are seeking to be popular!
As we approach the end of this year and begin to make resolutions regarding the next, may our greatest resolve be to keep the smile on God’s face. It is the smile of His APPROVAL which needs to continually warm our hearts and influence our actions.
Have a great day LIVING TO PLEASE GOD!

R.S.V.P.
Invitations are made verbally in person or by phone, as well as by mail and e-mail. They can also be passed on through others. Some invitations come marked R.S.V.P. while others may be sent with the assumption they will be accepted. The expression R.S.V.P. is French for “Repondez s’il vous plait” which in English means “respond if you please.” Now, some invitations are more special than others. And perhaps some invitations may be declined without any adverse consequences. After all, we live very busy lives and can ’t attend everything. However, there is one invitation we should feel very privileged to have had extended to us and we dare not allow anything to keep us from accepting.
Jesus offered the following invitation which still stands.
“(28) Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give your rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29 ESV)
It is up to us to accept the invitation and come to Him. Jesus will not come after us in order to drag us to Him. Remember how the father of the lost son kept watching for his son’s return, but did not go off to the far country and drag him home. The lost son had to come to his senses and make the decision to “arise and go.” (Luke 15:18)
We must also come to Jesus on His terms. He did not say, “Stay where you are and do what ‘you please’ and I will give. Rather, the coming to Him is to be accompanied by a willingness to accept His yoke (that is to submit to His Authority and Will) and learn from Him. It is in the coming to Him with a surrendered will that we will ultimately find rest for our souls. And HE WILL BE PLEASED with all who will respond, accepting the invitation He has extended.
If the invitation still needs to be accepted, let it be done today. If it has been accepted, let us be mindful of extending it to others. It is the greatest invitation that has been offered to mankind and comes from the greatest Inviter; the One Who gave Himself in order to provide us with the greatest blessings possible. Let us continue to live in Him that those blessings will be ours.
Have a great day RETAINING OUR PLACE ON THE LORD’S GUEST LIST!

Away in a Manger?
We do not know with certainty the precise date of Jesus’ birth. However, as I think about the birth of the Christ and consider the celebration of my own birthday (earlier this month), I view Christ’s birth as having far more significance than my own and therefore worth celebrating. And this time of year presents a wonderful opportunity for us to try to help others recognize the significance of celebrating CHRIST throughout the year. His birth was not only important from a Scriptural point of view, but also of great significance historically. It occurred in time and place! And Jesus’ birth and eternal existence are still impacting lives today!
A FACT of scripture is that we are exhorted to celebrate Christ’s death burial and resurrection. We do this through our observance of the Lord’s supper. We have not been expressly commanded to celebrate His birth. However, the FACTS regarding the coming of Christ in the flesh should be accepted as they are. This time of year I am often struck by the Biblical illiteracy revealed in various holiday displays. Perhaps the one which gets me the most is frequently associated with nativity scenes. For the world to not have the story correct is one thing, but when I see such displayed next to church buildings or in the yards of people who claim to believe the Scriptures, I am really taken back.
Note one FACT recorded by Matthew regarding the birth of Jesus.
“(1) Now AFTER JESUS WAS BORN in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, (2) saying, ‘Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.’ … (10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. (11) AND GOING INTO THE HOUSE they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him.
Then opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:1-2 & 10-11 ESV)
Luke’s account reveals shepherds visited while Jesus was in a manger in the stable. (Luke 2:15-16) However, from Matthew’s account we see that by the time the wise men arrived, Mary and Joseph and Jesus were in a house. He was AWAY FROM THE MANGER by that point! Since Herod decided he needed to have the male children two years and younger put to death (based on the timing told him by the wise men) in order to get rid of this new born king (Matthew 2:16), it has been noted that the visit by the wise men may have been somewhere between Jesus being forty days and two years old.
Perhaps some would claim it is not important where Jesus was when visited by the wise men. But who are we to decide that some FACT (regardless of how small we might think it) regarding the life of Jesus is not important. Knowing where Jesus was when visited by the wise men may not be a matter of salvation. However, once we begin to disregard the FACTS on any level, where will the departure end? If we are going to tell His story, we ought to be prepared to tell it as it is! After all, how could we ever improve on such a wonderful story as His? May we be content to stick to the FACTS!
Have a great day HELPING OTHERS KNOW THE REST OF THE TRUE STORY!

Anticipation!
Christmas is coming! Oh, the anticipation! Oh, the eagerness! Oh, the excitement! The masses have been frantically shopping and eagerly anticipating the exchanging of gifts. I am even eagerly anticipating the excitement that will be on the faces of our grandchildren as they open their presents tomorrow morning. However, how many are focusing on Christ and a relationship with Him? How many celebrate Christ as a part of their life throughout the year? I realize we do not know with certainty the precise birthday of Jesus. Nevertheless, just as HIS COMING was prophesied He came in the fulfillment of every detail. For those who would believe, He was clearly seen to be the long awaited Messiah.
As angels heralded our Lord’s first coming (Luke 2:9-13), so also angelic messengers encouraged regarding His second (Acts 1:10-11). Do we still share an eagerness regarding HIS COMING?
Writing to the church at Philippi, Paul stated…
“(20) But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it WE AWAIT A SAVIOR, the Lord Jesus Christ, (21) who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” (Philippians 3:20-21 ESV)
The Greek (according to Vine’s Expository Dict. of N.T. Words) implies “to await or expect eagerly.” And the New Living Translation reads… “we are EAGERLY WAITING FOR HIM TO RETURN as our Savior.” [NLT, © 1997, Wheaton, Ill.: Tyndale House]
Encouraging the Christians at Thessalonica, Paul wrote…
“(16) for THE LORD HIMSELF WILL DESCEND FROM HEAVEN with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. (17) Then we who are alive, who are left, WILL BE CAUGHT UP TOGETHER with them in the clouds TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR, and so we will always be with the Lord. (18) Therefore ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER WITH THESE WORDS.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 ESV)
Eager anticipation! Is that our spirit in view of the Lord’s return? If so, are we daily living life in preparation for HIS COMING? That is the day the world needs to become more aware of because it is a day of eternal significance! May we help those around us understand there is much more to the story of Jesus than a baby in a manger.
Have a great day LIVING WITH OUR LORD’S RETURN IN MIND!

Caught Up In The Spirit!
It is easy to get caught up in all the hustle and bustle this time of year. But when we do, what happens to our mindfulness of others? When we find ourselves among the crowds do we discard our Christian ideals if that is what it appears is necessary for us to get what we want? Someone has stated, “Christmas shoppers are people with the spirit of brotherly shove.”
[source: calendar quote] Yesterday evening on the news I watched a clip of two cars trying to take the same parking spot, with one car actually pushing the other back out of the spot!
For too many “religion” is something to be practiced when it is convenient or with a view that the principles of godly character aren’t adequate for all situations of interaction in the world. Such individuals, in order to get what they want, set aside their religion for the moment in order to “survive” the ways of the world. However, we need to keep the SPIRIT OF CHRISTIANITY ALIVE in whatever we do. Jesus implied that loving is always a proper action (Matthew 5:44-47) regardless of what the world is doing.
Paul exhorted…
“And WHATEVER YOU DO, in word or deed, DO EVERYTHING IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17 ESV)
Whatever! Whatever you do! Do it in the Name of the Lord Jesus! It is to be the SPIRIT in which we approach whatever we are doing as well as how we react to situations regardless of how hectic our surroundings might be. We may end up walking a little further. We may have to wait a little longer. Perhaps we’ll even lose our chance at that last item. But what is gained for Christ if we approach life like the rest of the world? Maintaining the SPIRIT OF CHRISTIANITY will bring a calm within our own selves and holds great potential for a positive impact on others. Our world is deeply in need of recognizing the beauty of a genuine CHRISTIAN SPIRIT.
The SPIRIT OF CHRISTIANITY is to be seen as the element that helps us “survive” the things of this realm. It is to permeate our entire being because it is what we are; Christians; genuine followers of Jesus Christ! May that be the SPIRIT we are continually caught up in!
Have a great day LIVING TO THE GLORY OF CHRIST!

Not Crushed!
Yesterday I was brought into contact with a young man who has recently
found himself homeless. It was cold and wet out and he had no shoes.
However, in expressing his need he told me he wasn’t sure what he needed
more -- food or shoes? His hope was that I could help him with one or the
other and I was fortunately able to help him with both the food as well as
shoes and socks. In the course of our conversation (as I drove him from a
local motel to a store) he told me how he couldn’t believe the attitude of
another homeless individual he had talked with, considering himself still
with much for which to be thankful. This young man stated he knew he was
still better off than so many in Africa who have so very little.
As we sat talking, I couldn’t help but think what a time of year to be
down on your luck. Nevertheless, as I listened to this young man I could see
that though he was facing a difficult period in his life, his spirit was not
broken.
What have we complained about recently? What do we allow to crush our
spirit? Are we able to maintain a HOPEFUL PERSPECTIVE regarding life’s
varied situations?
Note Paul’s powerful outlook on life.
“(8) We are afflicted in every way, BUT NOT CRUSHED; perplexed, BUT
NOT DRIVEN TO DESPAIR; (9) persecuted, BUT NOT FORSAKEN; struck down, BUT
NOT DESTROYED;” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9 ESV)
Paul faced some great challenges in his life. However, he was still able
to maintain a HOPEFUL PERSPECTIVE toward life. Like Paul, we need to
continue reflecting on God’s promises so that our spirit will continually be
uplifted. God continues to be fully aware of every aspect of our life.
Things may not always go as we would prefer, but God can bring us through
the difficulties and will ultimately bring us into His glorious presence.
Remember the encouragement of Romans 8:28 regarding our God’s ability.
Regardless of circumstances we have much for which to be thankful. May our
HOPE continue to be centered with God.
Have a great day SUSTAINED BY A SURE HOPE!

By and By!
There are some things we may struggle to understand while living in this earthly realm, which we will see more clearly by-and-by. However, there is much God has already clearly revealed through His Word BY which we should be greatly encouraged now.
Writing to the church at Rome Paul pointed out…
“(9) Since, therefore, we have now been justified BY his blood, much more shall we be saved BY him from the wrath of God. (10) For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God BY the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved BY his life.” (Romans 5:9-10
ESV)
Where would we be without Christ? Without Him we have nothing that endures. All our earthly wealth and prestige will someday go bye-bye. Therefore, Christ must be recognized as our only abiding hope and glory. Through our connection to Him we have received blessing after blessing and “grace upon grace.” (John 1:16)
Did you note in the two verses above the glorious provisions Paul stated are ours BY the work of Christ? As Christians, because we are in Christ Jesus now, we have been justified BY His blood. There is no way we can be justified by ourselves or the merits of any other earthly being. Our justification before God can only be ours because of Christ. We have also been saved from God’s wrath BY Him. Jesus paid the price for our sins and the penalty has been removed, thereby taking the wrath of God away from us. BY the death of Jesus we have been reconciled (brought back) to God and therefore saved BY His life. These are blessing BY which we should be eternally grateful as we live now to glorify and please God. May these truths encourage us to press on as we continue to live and serve the purposes of God in this realm.
Have a great day APPRECIATING EACH BLESSING WE HAVE IN CHRIST!

Worth the Cost?
Am I worth Christ dying for? Are you? I know my sins and you are aware of your own. But for whom did Christ die?
Paul stated…
“(6) For while we were still weak, at the right time CHRIST DIED FOR THE UNGODLY. … (8) but God shows his love for us in that WHILE WE WERE STILL SINNERS, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6 & 8 ESV)
For the ungodly and for sinners! Certainly we would say such are not worthy of the death of Jesus. However, it is not because we merited the provision of being cleansed by the blood of Christ that He gave Himself on the cross, but because it was the only way to provide the complete forgiveness we needed.
Paul viewed himself as the worst of sinners. (1 Timothy 1:16) When he was converted and began his walk with Christ, looking at the history of his life there is no question regarding his zeal to have not received the grace of God in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:10) And Paul urged the Corinthian brethren to do likewise. (2 Corinthians 6:1)
Nothing on our part could ever have made us worthy of Jesus’ sacrifice.
However, we can allow Him to work in and through us to make our lives worth the gift we have received. How we LIVE NOW in our relationship to Christ will reveal whether or not we personally have become worth the cost or if the gift was in vain. Though we were not worthy, we can submit to God’s Will and “walk worthy of the calling” we have received. (Ephesians 4:1; 1 Thessalonians 2:12) If we do that, we will have become worth Jesus laying down His life for us.
Have a great day ACCEPTING THE VALUE CHRIST BRINGS!

Be Confident!
In response to the “teEn-MAIL” focus from a couple days ago (“What Is!”) dealing with worry, one reader sent the following quote: “I’ve suffered from a great number of things in this life, some of which actually happened.” [original source unknown]
It can be easy to become pessimistic regarding life. Many things happen which could cause us at times to expect the worst. Even the suffering from imagined things is real, but not necessary to be ENDURED. There are enough situations that are real. Why compound them with that which is not? Can we continue to find confidence in God regardless of what we might face?
In this life we are called to ENDURE. We may have suffered many things and will most likely face others. Those whom the writer of Hebrews addressed had been struggling through some very challenging times. Encouragement was needed for them to continue to ENDURE, holding on to their faith. In an attempt to help these Christians keep their suffering in perspective, the Hebrew writer reminded them of the suffering Christ ENDURED and the fact they themselves had not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood. (Hebrews 12:3-4) Is that our situation as well?
The Hebrew writer encouraged…
“(32) But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, YOU ENDURED A HARD STRUGGLE WITH SUFFERINGS, (33) sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. (34) For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. (35) Therefore DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR CONFIDENCE, which has a great reward. (36) For YOU HAVE NEED OF ENDURANCE, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” (Hebrews 10:32-36 ESV)
When we made the decision to be baptized into Christ, we began a walk of faith. We trusted Him enough to accept what only He could offer. Our life became different. Our perspective changed. And transformation more and more into His likeness is to continue. What we trusted in Him for then we can trust Him for now! Let us not throw away our confidence as we continue to ENDURE through the challenges of this life. We will receive what is promised!
Have a great day HOLDING AN OPTIMISTIC VIEW TOWARD ETERNITY!

What'd Ya Say?
Communicating is more than merely getting something said. It is also having the message accurately received. When that is not the case we really have not communicated. However, it is also important for us to be mindful of what it is we are saying.
Paul, writing to the church at Philippi, exhorted…
“Only LET YOUR MANNER OF LIFE BE WORTHY OF THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,” (Philippians 1:27 ESV)
The King James Version begins … “Only let YOUR CONVERSATION be as it becometh the gospel of Christ…”
I like the KJV’s use of the word “conversation” to refer to the manner of living because we need to be mindful of what message is being conveyed by the way we live our daily lives. Does our life say something about our relationship to the gospel of Christ? Does it say something consistent with what we choose to DISCUSS as well?
What do we have a mind to be involved in DISCUSSING the most? Someone has made the following contrast. “Great minds discuss ideas; normal minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips” compiled by E. C. McKenzie]
What greater things could we DISCUSS than those which are of eternal consequence. Oh, yes, we may enjoy spending time DISCUSSING the events of the day (and hopefully we refrain from gossiping about people), but how mindful are we of pointing attention to the Good News of salvation and eternal hope in Christ? May we be in possession of a “great mind” prepared to DISCUSS the greatest Good News that can possibly be shared.
Have a great day MINDFUL OF CONVEYING THE GREATEST MESSAGE!

What Is!
While growing up, among some of the odd jobs I performed was that of cleaning gutters and sweeping moss and pine needles off roofs. I was not fearful of heights and therefore not worried about being up on rooftops, though my mother may have worried for me. (Especially since she had once observed me taking a jump with my bike over about an 8 or 10 foot drop off down onto a steep embankment.) However, the times when I almost fell off a roof probably got my heart palpitating more than had I actually fallen. If I had worried about falling I probably never would have gotten up onto the roof or would have at least slowed my work pace.
Someone has made the statement, “Of all the troubles great or small, the greatest are those that don’t happen at all.” [source: sentence sermons]
So many times I have found this to be true. How about you? Too many spend too much time worrying about what might never happen. Certainly we need to be careful and watchfully aware of life’s dangers. Nevertheless it is possible to get so focused on imagining all that could happen that one is unable to properly deal with what is happening.
Jesus exhorted…
“Therefore DO NOT BE ANXIOUS ABOUT TOMORROW, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. SUFFICIENT FOR THE DAY IS ITS OWN TROUBLE.” (Matthew 6:34 ESV)
Worrying is merely BORROWING TROUBLE. Jesus’ encouragement was toward a trust in God while focusing on what is today. Since we do not have a clear view of what tomorrow might bring, we are to deal with the things of today, trusting in God’s guidance, provision, and strength to handle the things of tomorrow as they come.
May we trust God for His sufficient provision for each day He brings.
Today is enough to handle. Praise God He so wisely provides life in daily doses.
Have a great day TRUSTING GOD WHILE HANDLING LIFE AS HE GIVES IT!

Bumped In The Crowd!
Have you ever stood holding a cup of something and had your elbow bumped. Perhaps you spilled some on yourself or even the person who bumped into you. Some time ago I had this experience myself. While standing in a crowded room holding a cup of coffee, my arm was suddenly bumped, causing part of the contents to splash onto the person who bumped me. As I began to apologize the other person acknowledged having not been paying close enough attention while moving through the crowd and then began to wipe off the front of their jacket.
Life in this crowded world can be like that. Someone has stated, “Ever notice when your cup of happiness is full, somebody always bumps your elbow?” [source: bulletin clipping] There will always be people and circumstances which will try to knock the happiness from us by slopping our cup of JOY. But remember, even Jesus held onto His JOY as He faced the cross. (Hebrews 12:2) And because of His sacrifice we have the hope of eternal JOY. The secret to maintaining a full cup is keeping in view that which is of greatest significance and cannot be taken away.
As Jesus encouraged the disciples prior to His death he said…
“So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, AND NO ONE WILL TAKE YOUR JOY FROM YOU.” (John 16:22 ESV)
As Christians we can experience such a JOY that will continue to thrill and uplift us. It is a JOY within rather than one which depends on outward circumstances. That is why it is hard for the world to take it away. Since JOY is the end product of right focuses and right living before God, by keeping our life connected to Him we can trust in the security for eternity He provides.
What did I do after my cup of coffee got slopped? I went and filled my cup back up again. May we continue to focus on what matters most and is secure because of Christ so that our cup of JOY may continue to remain full. And if someone bumps our elbow, perhaps spilling a little of that JOY on them will help them come to know where they can have their cup filled as well.
Have a great day LIVING WITH A FULL CUP!

It Is Good!
My calendar quote this morning was, “Confession is good for the soul --
and sometimes royalties.” Confession takes place for many reasons. Sometimes people confess only because they have gotten caught or because they know the truth is soon to be revealed anyway. And we may be disturbed by the money sometimes generated from the sale of “Tell All” books written by the corrupt or immoral who have been caught. Some people either find such to be fascinating reading or simply enjoy focusing on the miserable lives of others.
Note David’s focus on genuine confession.
“(1) Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. (2) Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! (3) For I KNOW MY TRANSGRESSIONS, and MY SIN IS EVER BEFORE ME. (4) AGAINST YOU, you only, HAVE I SINNED and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.” (Psalm 51:1-4 ESV)
First of all, David knew the wrong he had done. He called it “transgression” because he had crossed the line. He called it “iniquity” because he recognized his behavior had been immoral. He called it “sin” because that is exactly what it was for he had very definitely missed the mark. There was no masking it by any other name. And to remain silent would have left a miserable weight upon him. (note Psalm 32:1-4) David’s need was for humble acknowledgment and sincere confession to God.
Because of Christ and the willingness of God to forgive, there is no need to remain in a miserable state. Confession is truly good for the soul and the body. Humble acknowledgement and confession are HEALTHY because such action reveals the focus is on where one is so that proper change can take place. It is also a HEALTHY release of the guilt as we accept the forgiveness only God can provide. Through genuine confession comes the HEALTHY renewal of the relationship to God and the broken heart within.
Confession is a HEALTHY part of our relationship to God. It is important, however, for that confession to be genuine, especially since what is recorded in His book is what counts most. (Revelation 20:12) May we enjoy the HEALTH that comes from the honest and humble acknowledgement of sin that we may receive the gracious forgiveness of our God.
Have a great day STRENGTHENED BY THE GRACE AND MERCY OF GOD!

Right?
As long as there are those who believe that “might makes right” there will be conflict in this world. However, there are those who seem to drop to an even lower level regarding a view of their own strength.
Note the following charge of God through Habakkuk.
“Then they sweep by like the wind and go on, guilty men, WHOSE OWN MIGHT IS THEIR GOD!” (Habakkuk 1:11 ESV)
This appears to be a charge against Babylon which in various places of Scripture seems to have become a symbol of arrogance. Remember how even Nebuchadnezzar during the time of Daniel had to be humbled. (Daniel 4:28-33) The charge in Habakkuk was that their strength became viewed as their deity. And whenever people deify their own ability and strength the need for God is pushed completely out of mind as well as the rights or needs of others. We are headed the same direction when we (as some have verbalized) begin to believe that we can overcome simply because we are Americans.
Becoming too self-confident leads down a dangerous road. Our hope to stand victorious is not so much based upon who we are as it is a matter of WHOSE we are! GOD MUST REMAIN OUR GOD in every facet of our life. And our life needs to demonstrate to the world that it is always “right which makes right” and the righteous Will of God is to remain sovereign over all. May His sovereign wisdom continue to be evident in our life.
Have a great day CONFIDENT IN RELYING ON GOD!

Where Do I Begin?
Sometimes we struggle with what to do in certain situations or when we simply hear news that concerns us. There have been times when we have received a call and my wife will ask, “What do we do?” and I will respond, “Let’s pray.” Whatever the circumstances, PRAYER seems to be the best place to begin; to pray for all individuals associated with the situation and for clarity to ultimately come.
The statement has been made, “Talking to men for God is a great thing, but talking to God for men is the first thing.” [source: “sentence sermons”]
When we are concerned enough about others to take their circumstances or challenges to God in PRAYER, we have made the first step in reaching out to help in whatever way possible. PRAYER for others is the acknowledgement of our concern and interest in their welfare whether the need be physical or spiritual. PRAYER is also a step in reaching for the resources of strength and wisdom beyond ourselves.
Paul exhorted Timothy…
“(1) First of all, then, I URGE THAT SUPPLICATIONS, PRAYERS, INTERCESSIONS, AND THANKSGVINGS BE MADE FOR ALL PEOPLE, (2) for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. (3) This is good, and it is PLEASING IN THE SIGHT OF GOD our Savior, (4) WHO DESIRES ALL PEOPLE TO BE SAVED and to COME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH.” (1 Timothy 2:1-4 ESV)
Though Paul’s emphasis seems to have been with regard to those in official positions, he did say “for all people.” All are in need of PRAYER with the ultimate end being their coming to salvation through a knowledge of the truth. As we pray let us genuinely share God’s desire for the salvation of lost souls while remaining open to being used by Him to touch others where they are. We may be the very means by which God chooses to answer our PRAYER.
Have a great day UPLIFTING THE CARES OF OTHERS TO GOD!

Planning Stages!
Though we may not accomplish all our PLANS in this life, it is good to formulate them. Planning helps provide a sense of direction rather than leaving us aimlessly meandering through life, not knowing where we might end up. However, in the planning we must keep God’s Will in mind and be open to what He will bring in relation to those PLANS. To plan without a consciousness of God is not wise (note James 4:13-16), but when He is kept at the center of our PLANS we will find success in accordance with His purposes.
Note two statements from Solomon relating to PLANS.
“The PLANS of the heart belong to man, BUT THE ANSWER OF THE TONGUE IS FROM THE LORD.” (Proverbs 16:1 ESV)
“The heart of man PLANS his way, BUT THE LORD ESTABLISHES HIS STEPS.” (Proverbs 16:9 ESV)
As we begin to plan we may consider our own desires. To find joy in what we do is a good thing. Having the continued opportunity to preach and teach is exactly what I desire to do and a source of great joy. However, it is important to consider our PLANS with an earnest focus on God’s Will so that our desires can be brought into harmony with His, making sure the direction of our life is continually toward Him and ultimately focused for an eternity with Him. Then as we focus on moving ahead there is the need to consider how we respond to offers the world makes in relation to those PLANS and even how we speak of what has already been accomplished by us, guarding against coming across as if it was all us. Each step of the way we need to be open to the guidance and direction of God.
As we make our PLANS for life, may the answer of our tongue be from the perspective of the Lord’s Will and each step of fulfilling those PLANS be directed and established by Him. Since it is His purposes that shall prevail (Proverbs 19:21), this is how we can be assured the taste of success He will ultimately provide.
Have a great day KEEPING GOD IN THE PROCESS!

When Duty Calls!
We sing a hymn (an American spiritual arranged by Virgil O. Stamps, 1937) which begins “When the Savior calls I will answer, When He calls for me I will hear…”, and we look with great anticipation for the day our name is called and we can go home. BUT … what is our answer for living now? Someone has stated, “When duty calls some people are never at home.”
[source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie]
After the disciples had asked Jesus to increase their faith and Jesus pointed out what even a little faith can do (Luke 17:5-6), He then went on to point to the righteous role of SERVANTS in this life.
“(7) Will any one of you who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down at table’? (8) Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’? (9) Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? (10) So YOU ALSO, WHEN YOU HAVE DONE ALL THAT YOU WERE COMMANDED, SAY, ‘WE ARE UNWORTHY SERVANTS; WE HAVE ONLY DONE WHAT WAS OUR DUTY.’ ” (Luke 17:7-10
ESV)
As SERVANTS of God there are things we are to be involved in doing. When we hear the call do we just let it ring as if we are not at home? Do we answer, but then hang up after excusing ourselves? Or when we do serve, do we boast as if we have made something of ourselves by our works? Certainly God desires for us to serve Him out of love and to do so with a humble heart. However, there is a sense of duty to God as His SERVANTS that must still be kept in mind.
We have great privileges as children of God. However, with privilege comes responsibility. We are also called to be faithful SERVANTS. God has works in mind for us (Ephesians 2:10) and He desires our willingness to carry them out. Consider the SERVANT HEART of Jesus and the benefits and glory we have received because of His willingness to submit to the Father’s Will. May we faithfully and humbly walk in His steps.
Have a great day ANSWERING THE CALL!

Power Connection!
In a recent Bible class discussion, a member of our congregation whose father had worked for a power company in California made reference to the transforming of high voltage power to a useable form. A high power line may be carrying 11,000 volts, but such power cannot be handled by the appliances in our homes. In fact DRAWING ON such power would be both dangerous and destructive. However, with the use of a transformer that voltage can be reduced to the 240 or 120 that is adequate for our needs and easily handled by our home’s electrical system.
I have found it interesting when movies depict someone being given the power of God, how quickly it becomes apparent such power is not handled well. We can be thankful that God is God and we are not! Though we look to God for His strengthening and empowerment to live godly lives, in His omniscient (all knowing) wisdom He has not given us His omnipotent (all
powerful) ability. God has power we can DRAW ON, but it is provided in ways in which it can be handled.
Paul found sufficiency in what God provided for him.
“But he said to me, ‘MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT for you, for MY POWER IS MADE PERFECT IN WEAKNESS.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so THAT THE POWER OF CHRIST MAY REST UPON ME.” (2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV)
It is God to Whom we are to look when faced with temptation.
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. GOD IS FAITHFUL, AND HE WILL NOT LET YOU BE TEMPTED BEYOND YOUR ABILITY, but with the temptation HE WILL ALSO PROVIDE THE WAY OF ESCAPE, THAT YOU MAY BE ABLE TO ENDURE IT.” (1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV)
God has great wisdom, but has not dumped all knowledge upon us. What we gain we gain gradually, though recognizing there are still some secret things which belong to God. (Deuteronomy 29:29) In order for us to DRAW ON the power of God we must maintain a connection to Him and allow His Word to transform our thinking. What He has revealed is sufficient for living life now.
Paul urged…
“Do not be conformed to this world, but BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWAL OF YOUR MIND, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2 ESV)
With God there will never be an energy shortage. He will always be all powerful. Let us remain connected to Him so as to be able to DRAW ON whatever power is beneficial and needed to empower us through the varying situations of life.
Have a great day REMAINING PLUGGED INTO GOD!

No Substitute!
Last month I attended a luncheon hosted by our area blood center which was put on as a thank you to their volunteers and regular blood donors. Like my parents, I have been a regular blood donor for several years. It was not until last June that my father found himself on the receiving end and he was disappointed that he could no longer offer his blood to others. During the course of the meal a doctor spoke about the importance of blood donations because, though experimentation continues, there is still no substitute for human blood. It takes the blood of one person to provide blood for another in need.
Blood has been referred to as the gift of life. It is a part of God’s creation for transporting renewal through the body via our veins. Though we might not think about our blood’s continuing activity all the while it is doing its stuff, its importance is not to be taken for granted. However, as vital and powerful as the blood might be which flows in the veins of man or beast, it’s life giving power has its limitations.
Regarding Jesus and His blood, the Hebrew writer encouraged that…
“(12) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of HIS OWN BLOOD, thus SECURING AN ETERNAL REDEMPTION. … (14) how much more will THE BLOOD OF CHRIST, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, PURIFY our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” (Hebrews 9:12 & 14
ESV)
As there is no substitute for human blood, how much more we should realize there is also no substitute for the powerful BLOOD OF JESUS. Only by the power of HIS BLOOD can we be justified before God. (Romans 5:9) It is HIS BLOOD that has the power to cleanse us of all sin (1 John 1:7) and provide us with an eternal hope because HIS BLOOD is associated with an eternal covenant. (Hebrews 13:20)
Let us always bear in mind that as precious as blood is, the BLOOD OF JESUS is most precious of all. (1 Peter 1:19) Praise God for such an eternal provision as we gain because of it. May HIS BLOOD never be received in vain.
Have a great day CONNECTED TO CHRIST’S LIFE GIVING BLOOD!

Better Learn!
There are some things which I do not KNOW HOW to do which give me little cause for concern. I don’t KNOW HOW to crochet, but my wife does and I am able to enjoy the hat, scarf, and blanket she has made for me. I don’t know a lot about engines, but when I have a problem I find someone who does KNOW HOW and let them get my car running smoothly again. There are many things we may never learn how to do with very little consequence to us other than perhaps having to spend some of our hard earned money for another to use their KNOW HOW for our benefit. However, we cannot rely upon others for all things relating to our life. There are some areas of life where personal KNOW HOW is vital.
Note a statement within God’s prophecy to Israel through His prophet Amos.
“ ‘THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO RIGHT,’ declares the LORD, ‘those who store up violence and robbery in their strongholds.’ ” (Amos 3:10 ESV)
Perhaps it is not uncommon to hear a child being told he (or she) had better learn to behave. On the other hand it is very sad when adults seem to be in need of such an admonition. The matter is even more serious when it comes to the importance of acknowledging what God has revealed as right.
There are those who know what is right yet simply choose not to do it. Perhaps their conscience and heart can still be touched since they apparently do understand there is a distinction between right and wrong. However, when one reaches the point of becoming so depraved they do not KNOW HOW to do right, the situation is quite serious. Not only has such a one become blinded to the actions of their own life, but they can easily be led further and further away from that which is right.
Through the prophet Isaiah, God urged…
“(16) Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; CEASE TO DO EVIL, (17) LEARN TO DO GOOD; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.” (Isaiah 1:16-17 ESV)
I learned many things from my father while he was living. Even as he faced death he taught me more about faith, love, and peace when the life is placed securely in the hands of God. For all of these I am very thankful because those lessons are a part of him which remain to encourage me on. Among the most essential lessons my father taught me by his life example and his words was the importance of living right before God. It is a matter which relates to life now and for eternity.
Doing right! Do we KNOW HOW? May we each continue to recognize that of all the things we might gain the KNOW HOW, doing right is something we had better learn!
Have a great day CERTAIN OF BEING RIGHTLY SCHOOLED!

Well, I Declare! (part 9)
WELL I DECLARE! Has this series gone on long enough? When it comes to DECLARING that which relates to God, His work, and the blessings He has poured out on us, does the list ever end? I DECLARE to you that God is the provider of blessings beyond our imagination. I DECLARE to you that whatever we envision, God’s eternal blessings will be even better than that! We may have an overwhelming feeling of awe and gratitude for the blessings we know are already ours, but what of those blessings of an eternal nature yet to come?
Paul stated:
“(50) I DECLARE to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. (51) Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but WE WILL ALL BE CHANGED-- (52) in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be RAISED IMPERISHABLE, and we will be changed. (53) For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. (54) When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “DEATH has been SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY.”” (I Corinthians 15:50-54 NIV)
The mystery is not that we don’t know it will happen. We are told it will take place so that we may be encouraged as we press on in this life. The mystery is that the how, the what, and the when cannot be fully comprehended now. But however it will all come about -- I DECLARE TO YOU it will be awesome! You know how I know? Because our God’s track record reveals Him to continually be an awesome Provider of awesome blessings.
Have a great day DECLARING your faith in our AWESOME GOD!

Well, I Declare! (part 8)
LINKS in a chain. How important are they? Have you ever thought of your life as being a LINK in a chain? It has been said that a chain is only as strong as its weakest LINK. But what about “missing LINKS”? Evolutionists, in trying to draw their theories together, talk about missing LINKS of which they theorize in order to come up with their full picture. Even a weak LINK can serve some good, but what good is a “missing LINK”? A “missing LINK” raises questions and causes confusion. A “missing LINK” cannot be a part of pulling anything along or drawing anything together. A “missing LINK” cannot do its part.
A “missing LINK” is not what we want to be. We must keep in mind the LINK we are to the instilling of faith in others. We not only need to be mindful of our own spiritual lives and have a concern for our peers, but also realize our LINK to the NEXT GENERATION. It has been pointed out that apostasy (departure from God’s truth) is only a generation away. We must realize what an awesome and important role we have been called to fulfill.
The Psalmist stated:
“Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I DECLARE YOUR POWER to the NEXT GENERATION, your might to all who are to come.” (Psalm 71:18 NIV)
Paul referred to the LINK in Timothy’s progress of faith.
“I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:5 NIV)
As a LINK, we may (and should) still be focusing on becoming stronger in our faith, but we are not to wait till that process is complete before beginning to share our faith. As long as we are living our faith will be in the process of strengthening and being refined. Let us DECLARE God’s power to the NEXT GENERATION. Let us be a LINK in the chain of helping others see the difference God’s power has made in our lives and can make it theirs. And in the process our LINK will also become one that is stronger and more useful in God’s plan.
Have a great day being GOD’S LINK to the next generation.

Well, I Declare! (part 7)
It is with hesitancy that bad news is shared, since it is known the news will impact the hearers in a negative way. Sometimes it is even with fear that bad news is shared as the bearer of the news may wonder with what type of response they may come face to face. Even though the messenger may not be the cause of the bad news the recipient may lash out at them anyway. No, we don’t relish the thought of bringing bad news.
It is GOOD NEWS we like to share. GOOD NEWS generally brings a good response. GOOD NEWS can be shared with a smile and be received with one as well. GOOD NEWS is easier to deliver.
Note Paul’s request of his Ephesian brethren:
“(19) Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known THE MYSTERY OF THE GOSPEL,
(20) for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may DECLARE IT FEARLESSLY, as I should.” (Ephesians 6:19-20 NIV)
The GOSPEL is GOOD NEWS. Yet we do find ourselves hesitant to share it at times. Sometimes we are fearful of rejection when trying to share God’s GOOD NEWS. If we really believe it to be GOOD NEWS we ought to always be ready to DECLARE it with joy. The GOSPEL is the BEST NEWS we have to offer the world for it is linked not only to this life, but to eternity as well.
We know the difference the GOSPEL has made in our own lives. Though it is true there are some who reject it for one reason or another, we ought to continue to DECLARE it fearlessly that those who will receive it with joy may have that opportunity.
At some point someone DELCARED that GOOD NEWS to us. It may have been a parent, a preacher, a teacher, a close friend, or even a stranger. May we not be guilty of allowing that GOSPEL to stop with us. Rather, continue to pass the GOOD NEWS along with the hope fruit will be brought forth in the lives of others on whom the seeds of God’s message fall. May we keep each other in prayer to this end.
Have a great day DECLARING GOD’S BEST NEWS for mankind!

Well, I Declare! (part 6)
“She loves me. She loves me not. She loves me. She loves me not.” One by one the petals are pulled from the daisy. “She loves me. She loves me not.
She loves me. She loves me not.” Then down to last few petals... “She loves me. She loves me not. SHE LOVES ME!” The DECLARATION is made! The DECLARATION is made with great excitement when it is known to be true. And the DECLARATION is made to anyone who will listen. “SHE LOVES ME AND I WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW IT!”
And I will tell anyone who will listen how much my wife loves me and about the many ways in which she has shown and continues to show her love for me. SHE LOVES ME!
The Psalmist stated:
“I will DECLARE that YOUR LOVE STANDS FIRM FOREVER, that you established your faithfulness in heaven itself.” (Psalm 89:2 NIV)
And that is definitely a LOVE to DECLARE! Why? Because GOD’s LOVE is perfect. GOD’S LOVE always has our best interests in view. GOD’S LOVE is steadfast! GOD’S LOVE is eternal! It is a LOVE we should be ready to DECLARE from the mountain tops. It is also the LOVE we should DECLARE through our attempts to imitate it in our own lives. “HE LOVES ME!” “HE LOVES YOU!” And He wants us to continue responding to HIS LOVE, abiding in it, and DECLARING it to the world.

Well, I Declare! (part 5)
I am a firm believer in giving credit where credit is do. However, there are many who like to take the credit for the work of others or simply fail to attribute works to the rightful benefactor.
The Psalmist wrote:
“Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I DECLARE YOUR MARVELOUS DEEDS.” (Psalm 71:17 NIV)
We may love to talk about our works or the works of others, but how much time have we spent DECLARING the MARVELOUS WORKS of God? Do we attribute to God credit for His WORKS in Creation and in our own lives as well? Do we DECLARE the MARVELOUS changes He has brought about in our lives?
The Psalmist also wrote:
“Sing to the LORD a new song, for HE HAS DONE MARVELOUS THINGS; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.” (Psalm 98:1 NIV)
And Isaiah stated:
“O LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness YOU HAVE DONE MARVELOUS THINGS, things planned long ago.” (Isaiah 25:1 NIV)
Think about the MARVELOUS DEEDS God has accomplished. Meditate on them.
Thank God and praise Him for them. May the DECLARATION of His DEEDS be on our lips. May the focus upon them put a song in our heart. With each day may we continue to DECLARE the deeds of God, for all His works on our behalf are simply MARVELOUS!

Well, I Declare! (part 4)
As we noted when we began this series, the “heavens DECLARE the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1), but the rest of Creation is also involved in PRAISING Him (note Psalm 148:7-12). Since we know God, should we not also join in the DECLARATION OF PRAISE?
The Psalmist stated:
“O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will DECLARE YOUR PRAISE.”
(Psalm 51:15 NIV)
And Peter exhorted:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may DECLARE THE PRAISES OF HIM WHO CALLED YOU OUT OF DARKNESS INTO HIS WONDERFUL LIGHT.” (I Peter 2:9 NIV)
God has delivered us from darkness into His wonderful light with the desire for us to DECLARE HIS PRAISES. As we focus on our deliverance, what is there to stop us from such a DECLARATION?

Well, I Declare! (part 3)
The Psalmist stated:
“I will DECLARE YOUR NAME to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you.” (Psalm 22:22 NIV)
When we love to talk about others (and I don’t mean gossiping) and use their NAME frequently in conversation, it reveals how much we think of them.
Frequent mentioning draws attention to how special that particular individual is to us.
How much do we talk about God? Is HIS NAME frequently on our lips? HIS NAME is to be valued above all! Is HIS NAME held with that view? Do others see in our life how the NAME OF GOD is held above all other authority or power?
As the NAME OF GOD comes from our lips, it should never be in a flippant way. Any time we speak the NAME OF GOD it should be with adoration, love, reverence and the acknowledgment of His position in our lives. The saying of HIS NAME ought to be as a DECLARATION of our first love! With a proper focus on Him, other relationships and aspects of life will fall into place.
Have a great day DECLARING GOD’S SPECIALNESS to your life!
