Trust!
“In God We Trust!” Those words are printed on our US currency and coins. They are displayed on walls and engraved on cornerstones or other parts of some of our national structures. Certainly we recognize that not everyone in this country truly does trust in God. There are many who trust in the money those words are written upon. Others trust in there own selves or other earthly relationships. However, when trust in God is truly real, how is it made evident? Someone has said, “Americans trust in God. You can tell it by the way they drive.” [source: bulletin clipping]
Perhaps we would agree that “someone” must be looking out for some of the crazy drivers out there. It may truly be an exercise of great faith on our part to be willing to join them on the highways. But what is it that truly does reveal our own personal trust in God? Consider one thing exhibited in the life of David.
Though David faced many challenges and dangers, he still declared…
“(10) In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise,
(11) IN GOD I TRUST; I SHALL NOT BE AFRAID. What can man do to me?” ( Psalm 56:10-11 ESV)
If we DRIVE recklessly or ride with those who do so, there may be great room for fearfulness. However, if our life is DRIVEN by a sincere trust in God, that should aid in removing fear from our life. Do others sense a calm about us even when we face this life’s varied challenges?
Peter exhorted…
“Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will ENTRUST THEIR SOULS TO A FAITHFUL CREATOR WHILE DOING GOOD.” ( 1 Peter 4:19 ESV)
Some people become paralyzed by fear. Instead of being fearful, we are called to trust in God while continuing to do the good works He has prepared for us to do. We may encounter many “speed bumps” and obstacles on the road of life. Nevertheless, we should remember the faithfulness of God.
The Hebrew writer encouragingly exhorted…
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope WITHOUT WAVERING, for HE WHO PROMISED IS FAITHFUL.” ( Hebrews 10:23 ESV)
“In God We Trust!” Do we? Does it show? May that genuine trust in God be revealed to be a true DRIVING force in our life.
Have a great day ALLOWING FAITH TO DRIVE OUT FEAR!
