Continuing Thanks!

A family sat down at the table to eat dinner one evening and one of the children immediately began to fill their plate and eat. “We haven’t had a prayer yet,” declared the father. “But these are leftovers and we prayed for them yesterday,” responded the child.

Though for this year the day designated “Thanksgiving” has now come and gone we may still be dealing with the LEFTOVERS. In fact I enjoyed some more waldorf salad for lunch today. Those remnants of what the tables were laden with yesterday may still be very much enjoyed even for a few more days and our thanks for them should still be expressed.

We may also be experiencing the LEFTOVER feelings of special moments with family and friends still lingering within us. Such feelings within are certainly better than those from indigestion due to overeating. And I don’t believe we can over do it when it comes to loving family and expressing thankfulness for the relationships we share.

Paul urged the church at Colosse…
“And WHATEVER YOU DO, in word or deed, DO EVERYTHING IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS, GIVING THANKS TO GOD the Father through him.” (Colossians
3:17 ESV)

One day of thanks does not even come close to being adequate for the bountiful blessings (both physical and spiritual ) God has provided. No matter how much thanks we may have given yesterday, we should have plenty of thanks LEFT-OVER for the blessings which came with this new day. May we rightly focus on the multitude of blessings which are ours so as to nourish a spirit of continual thanksgiving.

Have a great day ENJOYING THE SWEETNESS OF A THANKFUL SPIRIT!
Carl
