Right Angle on Life!

When we are introduced to the tone of life at the time of Noah, just to read the words should cause us to see that it was a distressing sight. And such was the view of God.

Moses recorded…
“(5) the Lord saw that THE WICKEDNESS OF MAN WAS GREAT on the earth, and that EVERY INTENTION OF THE THOUGHTS OF HIS HEART WAS ONLY EVIL CONTINUALLY. (6) And the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.” ( Genesis 6:5-6 ESV)

What a description! “…EVERY INTENTION … ONLY EVIL CONTINUALLY.” No wonder it grieved the heart of God! The NIV translates it as “EVERY INCLINATION … EVIL ALL THE TIME.” Evil was what they were wholly INCLINED toward! The angle of their INCLINATION was a DE-cline rather than an IN-cline!

The statement has been made: “No one lacks for ways of doing good -- only for the inclination.” Yes, that’s what they lacked -- an INCLINATION for good. As we approach life we should seek to be INCLINED upwardly rather than sloping downward as the ways of the world. Certainly it takes more effort to go up an INCLINE than to coast down one. But the picture of our life should be one that is marked by an onward and upward progression toward God.

Are we keeping a right angle on life? We are if we are continuing to develop a greater INCLINATION for good. May we diligently seek to make our EVERY INCLINATION be ONLY GOOD CONTINUALLY as we strive to live fulfilling the good and perfect Will of God.
