Pearls! (Part 2 of 7)

The psalmist wrote…
“I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “YOU ARE MY SON; today I have begotten you.” ( Psalm 2:7 ESV)

What God decrees, stands! David, as king over God’s people, had enjoyed a FATHER/SON relationship with God. But the reference is also associated with the covenant God made with David regarding his son who would follow him on the throne. ( 2 Samuel 17:14) Here was one begotten of God and given the right to rule.

To be, ourselves, known as a CHILD OF GOD is the most wonderful relationship to possess. But the meaning of this Psalm went beyond a focus of David or Solomon to point to the Messiah, begotten of God and given authority to rule. The Messiah shared the Divine essence and fulfilled everything in accordance with the Father’s plan.

We can be greatly encouraged knowing that whatever God foretells He fulfills! It matters not how many hundreds of years spanned the time of this prophecy and the fulfillment of it. God does not forget what He has planned and He has the power to bring it about. And His desire is to renew His Divine essence even within us as HIS CHILDREN. ( 2 Peter 1:4) May we submit to Him that He may fulfill His great work in our own lives.
