Apostasy! (Part 2 of 6)

Apostasy, if we are not on guard, can be but a few steps away. Paul, writing to Timothy, warned…
“(3) For THE TIME IS COMING WHEN PEOPLE WILL NOT ENDURE SOUND TEACHING, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, (4) and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.” ( 2 Timothy 4:3-4 ESV)

Perhaps, in Paul’s warning, we can find four steps into apostasy. I have highlighted the first one above which I would like us to consider today.
Lord willing we will consider the others over the next few days.

I believe we would have to say, “The time has come.” Many people are not ENDURING SOUND TEACHING. They cannot endure that which they refuse to allow to convict them and change them, so they attempt to change the teaching or misrepresent it. Those who preach a message of toleration are often the most intolerant of the steadfast truth of God’s Word. And scores of individuals are not holding to that which really rings true. It appears there is a sense in which many have simply become bored with sound ideas and are hungering for something new; being all too eager to snap up the latest ideas of the day (note Acts 17:21), accepting just about every idea under the sun. We may consider some of these folks to be kooks. There are also those who simply refuse to accept authority or any idea that goes against their own personal desires. And yet others have just simply been cleverly deceived.

If we are not on our guard, we too can be deceived. (note Jesus’ warning in Matthew 24:24) The world has a way of making fine sounding arguments.
( Colossians 2:4) May we never tire of the SOUND TEACHING of Scripture so that our actions and words may continue to ring true in a world that is becoming more and more out of tune with the Will of God.

Have a great day REMAINING STEADFAST IN THE TRUTH OF GOD!
Carl
