Apostasy! (Part 1 of 6)
Apostasy (the renunciation or departure from the teaching of God) can be just a few steps away if we are not watchful. Because of this, Paul gave Timothy the following charge.
“(1) I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: (2) PREACH THE WORD; BE READY IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON; REPROVE, REBUKE, AND EXHORT, WITH COMPLETE PATIENCE AND TEACHING.” ( 2 Timothy 4:1-2 ESV)
Timothy was to exercise great diligence in his ministry. The times demanded it. The established authority of Christ’s kingdom required it. And the reality of coming judgment necessitated it.
Peter also exhorted the need for a readiness to give an answer for the hope that we have in Christ. ( 1 Peter 3:15) Just as it was during the first century, our times demand it. There are many in despair who need to come to know the hope Christ offers. And the WORD OF TRUTH needs to be EXALTED because of all the other voices and ideologies sounding in our society today. How far will our society go with regard to the devaluing of life and the altering of God’s created design for family and relationships? We need to be civil. We need to SPEAK THE TRUTH IN LOVE. ( Ephesians 4:15) But we need to BE FIRM AND UNWAVERING when it comes to what God has declared.
As we deal with the issues of today we can refer to biological, sociological, psychological and historical evidence for upholding marriage and family as it should be. However, we must also help others understand it is essential to acknowledge the authority of God. The Creator of all life has spoken clearly as to what is right, provides benefit to humanity, and brings glory and praise to Him in whose image we were created. May we continue to EXALT HIS WORD.
Have a great day CONTINUING TO HOLD OUT THE WORD OF TRUTH!
Carl
