What Are The Chances?
Often when society faces challenges, the first solution offered is to provide more education; educate society (whether children, teens or adults) and they will make WISE choices. Education is important and does work with some, but I have been amazed at how much money has been poured into educating regarding such things as alcohol, drugs, smoking, teen sex, etc., only to have it fall on deaf ears. Regardless of how good the education program and the information it provides may be, it appears there will always be those who WILL NOT LEARN.
Zophar, one of Jobs friends, made the following statement.
“BUT A STUPID MAN WILL GET UNDERSTANDING WHEN A WILD DONKEY’S COLT IS BORN A MAN!” ( Job 11:12 ESV)
To me Zophar’s assertion appears to be one of those “when hell freezes over” statements. He seemed to imply it ain’t gonna happen! As long as people think they can figure it all out themselves they will be as those Paul described in his letter to the church at Rome who, while claiming to be wise, became fools. ( Romans 1:22) We must remain humble and WISE ENOUGH TO LOOK TO GOD for the guidance and instruction we need. It is important to look beyond ourselves; beyond our own understanding and wisdom. It is stupid to rely upon ourselves or even the wisdom of the world. The world’s wisdom is what has kept many from knowing God ( 1 Corinthians 1:20-21) and accepting Christ. ( 1 Corinthians 2:8) Relying on our own wisdom is not a chance we should want to take!
What are the chances of a wild donkey’s colt being born a man? What are the chances of getting to heaven without properly acknowledging the Lord and His Will? It ain’t gonna happen. (note Matthew 7:21-23) We must bear in mind and help others see that it is His Way or no way!
Jesus came to take the “chance” out of being saved. Therefore, let us continue to acknowledge Him as the Way, the Truth, the Life, and the only access to the Father. ( John 14:6) Following Jesus and allowing Him to be the Lord of our life will provide us with the assurance of hope and eternal salvation.
Have a great day WISELY WALKING WITH THE LORD!
Carl
