Place of Birth!
Place of birth is something many people take pride in, not wanting to forget their roots. Though people who have moved to this country from other nations may love living here, they still may talk with pride regarding their place of birth. Many born in this country are proud and thankful for being born U.S. citizens and may love to say, “I was born here.” How do we focus on our place of birth: our country, state, or even birth town? Does it have special meaning to us? Is there any sense of pride associated with the remembrance?
In the Psalms we read the following connection to Zion, the city of God; Jerusalem, the place where God’s temple had been built and His people would assemble.
“(5) And of Zion it shall be said, ‘THIS ONE AND THAT ONE WERE BORN IN HER’; for the Most High himself will establish her. (6) The Lord records as he registers the peoples, ‘THIS ONE WAS BORN THERE.’ Selah” ( Psalm 87:5-6
ESV)
As there developed a great sense of pride in being born a Jew, this was especially so with those associated with God’s holy city. There was an extreme specialness regarding this place and that was the way God intended it to be because the special relationship was not just with a city, but with the God Whose Name was there. It was also to God’s glory that others would take note of such. ( Psalm 87:4)
As John began introducing the Messiah in his Gospel, he stated…
“(12) But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, HE GAVE THE RIGHT TO BECOME CHILDREN OF GOD, (13) WHO WERE BORN, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but OF GOD.” (John
1:12-13 ESV)
There is the place of birth which matters. It is not of what country, but rather being BORN OF GOD that should provide us with a great sense of abiding specialness. As Christians, let us not forget our roots in Christ through Whom it has been made possible for us to be called children of God!
May we live in a way that others will also begin to recognize that we have truly been BORN OF GOD!
Have a great day CONTINUING TO LIVE ROOTED IN CHRIST!
