Action and Reaction!

There is a law of physics stated by Sir Isaac Newton with regard to laws of motion which says, “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” (Newton’s third law) When we consider this idea with regard to our doing that which is GOOD and RIGHT, we have all experienced such action being met by sometimes an equal action while at other times an opposite reaction.

Mark Twain is quoted as saying, “Always do right -- this will gratify some and astonish the rest.” Sometimes the world is surprised by those who do RIGHT simply because it is RIGHT. Too often it is selfish action -- such as would provide personal benefit -- that is anticipated or expected. But to do RIGHT, even at the cost of personal advantage, often raises the eyebrows of a surprised world. On occasions when our GOOD and RIGHT actions are not well received we might wonder if it is worth the effort. When such is the case, what should we focus on doing?

As Paul was beginning to bring his letter to the church at Galatia to a close he stated…
“(9) And let us NOT GROW WEARY OF DOING GOOD, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (10) So then, AS WE HAVE OPPORTUNITY, LET US DO GOOD TO EVERYONE, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” ( Galatians 6:9-10 ESV)

Doing RIGHT and GOOD is not to be limited to those who would return the same. (note also Matthew 5:44 and Romans 12:20-21) Let us continue to focus on doing what is GOOD and RIGHT simply because that is what it is. If it pleases some, let them be pleased. If it surprises others, let them be surprised. But through such action let us be encouraged by the ultimate satisfaction that God is pleased and will provide His reward in due season.

Have a great day COMMITTING EVERY ACTION TO GOD’S GLORY!
