A Lamentable Situation!
Contrary to what some think, ignorance is not bliss! Someone has said, “A man doesn’t always get paid for what he knows, but he seldom escapes paying for what he doesn’t know.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie]
People are not always paid according to their ability and knowledge. Perhaps such individuals feel there is a LACK OF APPRECIATION for what they have to offer. However, there are things which, when not known, may cause one to pay dearly.
Through the prophet Hosea, God lamented…
“MY PEOPLE ARE DESTROYED FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE; because YOU HAVE REJECTED KNOWLEDGE, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” ( Hosea 4:6 ESV)
The problem was not that knowledge was unavailable. Rather, the knowledge extended was rejected. The Law had been given through Moses. God had sent His prophets. But again and again the nation turned away from God’s Will.
The prophet Jeremiah made another lamentable reference.
“To whom shall I speak and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ears are uncircumcised, they cannot listen; behold, THE WORD OF THE LORD IS TO THEM AN OBJECT OF SCORN; they take no pleasure in it.” ( Jeremiah 6:10 ESV)
God’s people had a LACK OF APPRECIATION for His guidance and wisdom. They turned a deaf ear to what God had to offer and would therefore pay the price for their refusal to listen.
As Paul spoke in the Areopagus in Athens, he warned…
“(30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, BUT NOW HE COMMANDS ALL PEOPLE EVERYWHERE TO REPENT, (31) BECAUSE HE HAS FIXED A DAY ON WHICH HE WILL JUDGE THE WORLD IN RIGHTEOUSNESS by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” ( Acts 17:30-31 ESV)
God’s judgment will ultimately come upon all who reject His Will. The price for such rejection will be His rejection of them. Do we possess a sufficient APPRECIATION for the knowledge of God that we will continue accepting it?
May we continue to exhibit an APPRECIATION for the message of wisdom from God. Even today in the twenty-first century, His Way is still right. Let us continue to yield our listening ears to His Will.
Have a great day EARNESTLY SEEKING THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD!
Carl
