Wise Willingness!

Forgiveness is something we may struggle with from more than one angle. At times we may find ourselves having difficulty forgiving others who have wronged us or hurt us in some way. Even God’s willingness to FORGIVE is sometimes questioned. And perhaps the most difficult thing some may struggle with on occasion is the ability to FORGIVE self. Though some individuals may need more forgiveness than others (i.e. Luke 7:47), the truth is we all need it!

Someone has said, “Forgiveness from others is charity; from God, grace; from oneself, wisdom.” (Anonymous)

We appreciate those who are willing to forgive us. We may even recognize it as a sign of love. And we ought to have a great appreciation for the graciousness of God, recognizing it is because of His great love for us. However, we must guard against ever taking God’s grace for granted. We must also recognize the wisdom in being willing to FORGIVE others and ourselves.

Jesus stated…
“(14) For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, (15) BUT IF YOU DO NOT FORGIVE OTHERS THEIR TRESPASSES, NEITHER WILL YOUR FATHER FORGIVE YOUR TRESPASSES.” ( Matthew 6:14-15 ESV)

It is wise to FORGIVE because, according to Jesus, if we withhold it from others, it will be withheld from us. God’s willingness to FORGIVE us should make it easier for us to forgive others. And accepting God’s forgiveness should make it easier to FORGIVE ourselves. To understand the completeness of His forgiveness ought to provide us with a great sense of peace. Accepting God’s forgiveness (and therefore being willing to FORGIVE
ourselves) is wisdom revealed in trusting the adequacy of the blood of Jesus to deal with our sins as well as taking God at His word.

Forgiveness provides the opportunity to leave some things behind and move on. It is in itself a solution to conflict in that forgiveness allows for peace between forgiver and forgiven as well as a calming peace within self. It is also wise action on our part because to FORGIVE is to be God-like. We are to be merciful because that is the way God is. ( Luke 6:36) May God’s gracious spirit be instilled in our own lives.

Have a great day WILLING TO EXTEND WHAT WE HAVE RECEIVED!
Carl
