Genius And Wisdom!

Genius and wisdom. Are they truly known in this world for what they are?

One of the dictionary definitions for genius is: “extraordinary intellectual power especially as manifested in creative activity.” Wisdom is defined as “accumulated philosophic or scientific learning” and also “the ability to discern inner qualities and relationships” as well as “possessing “good sense.” [source: Webster’s Seventh New Collegiate Dictionary, © 1971]

The world has been ingenious in the sense of being very creative in sinning against God as “inventors of evil.” ( Romans 1:30 ESV) In its own enlightenment the world has rejected that which is truly wise. Today we see decisions made contrary to what we see in Scripture as GOD’S WAY. Yet those making the decisions consider themselves very wise.

Oscar Wilde made the statement, “The public is wonderfully tolerant. They forgive everything except genius.” (from “Intentions”, 1891) [source: “A Treasury of Business Quotations”, compiled by Michael C. Thomsett, #719, p.66]

Jesus had perfect knowledge. He knew when questions were intended to trap and He knew how to wisely respond. He could neither be trapped nor condemned in His responses regarding what was right. This fueled the anger that condemned Him to death. While many did accept the truth of His Word, much of the “intellectual circle” of the day did not because Jesus’ teaching did not fit their perspective of things.

The world has its wisdom. And when it is not accepted, the “intellectuals” call those who refuse to accept it “fools.” Today Christians have even been called “idiots” because of an unwillingness to accept what society wishes to tolerate. It seems too often that foolishness is accepted as wise and good sense is thrown out the window.

Note what Paul stated regarding wisdom in his letter to the church at Corinth.
“(20) Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
(21) For since, in the wisdom of God, THE WORLD DID NOT KNOW GOD THROUGH WISDOM, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.” ( 1 Corinthians 1:20-21 ESV)

We have the need to look to the wisdom from above. ( James 3:17) What is our IQ (Intelligence Quotient)? I’m not sure what the best numbers are, but if we are intelligent enough to rely on GOD’S WISDOM rather than our own, we just might be considered geniuses in God’s eyes. May we continue to uphold His standard for life, for ultimately GOD’S WISDOM will be shown to be right ( Matthew 11:19) in all things!

Have a great day RECOGNIZING THE WISDOM OF GOD’S WILL!
Carl
