Born For What?

When a child is born into this world, the parents often wonder what it is their child will become? This new life that has entered life’s scene, what will be its DESTINY? Some reach a stage in life when they appear to feel they were born to be wild. Lack of discipline and self-restraint, however, often takes away from life rather than contributing toward it.

It has been said that once one is born, they begin to die. Solomon even noted death as the DESTINY of all mankind. ( Ecclesiastes 7:2) This may be true physically, but it is not what God intended spiritually. Though we do need to die to self (i.e. being “crucified with Christ” -- Galatians 2:19-20) in order for God to have His rightful place in our life, it is for the purpose of gaining “true life” in the process. ( Matthew 16:24-25)

Note the contrast between the following two passages regarding birth.
James warned…
“(14) But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. (15) Then DESIRE when it has CONCEIVED GIVES BIRTH TO SIN, and SIN when it is FULLY GROWN BRINGS FORTH DEATH.” ( James 1:14-15 ESV)

Peter encouraged…
“(3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be BORN AGAIN TO A LIVING HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (4) TO AN INHERITANCE THAT IS IMPERISHABLE, UNDEFILED, and UNFADING, KEPT IN HEAVEN FOR YOU,” ( 1 Peter 1:3-4 ESV)

Two births mentioned with two completely opposite outcomes for the life. The life God has in mind for us is not one of sin and then on to death, particularly in the sense of eternal separation from God. In Christ, God has provided the means of new birth to be DESTINED for eternal glory in God’s eternal presence. Paul stated we were baptized into Christ’s death in order to “walk in newness of life.” ( Romans 6:4 ESV) That walking with God now can carry us on into the glorious DESTINY God has prepared for all who are His. And physical death will not have victory over it.

What kind of conception is associated with our life? Since all mankind is DESTINED to die once, and then come to the judgment ( Hebrews 9:27) we must consider for what we have been born! It is only through the new birth in Christ that we can be assured of the DESTINY of eternal glory prepared for God’s children.

Have a great day LIVING AS A GODLY CHILD OF DESTINY!
Carl
