A National Holiday!
(The following focus is a repeat from 04/01/2000. The Scripture quotation, however, has been changed to the English Standard Version)
It has been remarked that Christians have the Easter and Christmas Holidays to celebrate, but what day is there for atheists to observe? It has been suggested that today is the day; APRIL FIRST!
We may have fun with jokes on April Fool’s Day, but the grave reality is that there are some real FOOLS in this world. They lack the sense to see as they ought. In their own puffed up minds they miss what even the simple-minded have been able to see.
The Psalmist wrote:
“THE FOOL SAYS IN HIS HEART, ‘THERE IS NO GOD.’ They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.” ( Psalm 14:1 ESV)
This idea is also repeated in Psalm 53:1.
With all the attempts in our society today to get God (or references to
Him) out of everything possible, how long will it be before some could rightfully declare April Fools Day A NATIONAL HOLIDAY?
For us believers, every day is a day to celebrate, as every day is a gift from our God. We look at the beauty of Creation and know Who to thank for its splendor. We look at the precision of our universe and the structure of plant and animal life and know there is a Great Designer we can thank. How could anyone truly believe it is all the result of some cosmic accident? We observe the tragic consequences individuals bring to their lives through sin and know Who to thank for giving us better direction than man has been able to establish himself. We experience the peace of forgiveness and know the One to Thank who has provided the adequate provision for the guilt of sin to be removed. And we thank God that He is God!
Have a great day ACKNOWLEDGING GOD IN ALL YOU DO!
Carl
