Though He Knows!
Our tendency is to do things for others only when we feel they are deserving. If they are perceived as undeserving, we are quick to withhold from them. Certainly we would not want to empower others with the opportunity to do evil, but have we lost sight of the power of providing good for others with the hope they would ultimately be influenced by the GRACIOUSNESS of our actions?
God had Moses teach the nation of Israel a song before they were to enter the promised land. ( Deuteronomy 31:19; 32:1-43) Why? The following passage tells us why.
“(20) For WHEN I HAVE BROUGHT THEM INTO THE LAND flowing with milk and honey, which I swore to give to their fathers, and they have eaten and are full and grown fat, THEY WILL TURN TO OTHER GODS AND SERVE THEM, AND DESPISE ME AND BREAK MY COVENANT. (21) And when many evils and troubles have come upon them, this song shall confront them as a witness (for it will live unforgotten in the mouths of their offspring). For I KNOW WHAT THEY ARE INCLINED TO DO EVEN TODAY, before I have brought them into the land that I swore to give.” ( Deuteronomy 31:20-21 ESV)
God knew what the people of Israel would do once they began to settle into the promised land. However, He was going to lead them into it anyway. If the God Who knows (as only He can) actions of man in such a way, who are we to be less GRACIOUS when we don’t know with certainty the future actions of others?
Oh, how unlike us is our God! We may wonder about His GRACIOUSNESS in spite of what He knows full well will happen. However, that is the way He is; very GRACIOUS to the undeserving, which includes you and me. Though we may accept the history of His GRACIOUSNESS and have experienced it ourselves, we must guard against taking it for granted. May we recognize how God’s loving actions are aimed toward the prompting of a loving and obedient response from us. That thought should powerfully impact our life in a way that continually draws us closer to Him and His Will.
Have a great day THANKFUL GOD DOES NOT EASILY GIVEN UP ON US!
