The Answer!
It has been moaned, “About the time I get all the answers, they change all the questions.” In life we can find ourselves challenged by either asking the wrong questions or accepting the wrong answers. What questions are we asking? What answers are we accepting?
With a perspective of life lived “under the sun” Solomon noted the view common to many in the world even today.
“Bread is made for laughter, and wine gladdens life, and MONEY ANSWERS EVERYTHING.” ( Ecclesiastes 10:19 ESV)
How often do people (or perhaps we ourselves) exclaim, “If I only had more money!” If we sat down for a heart to heart conversation with the very rich they would tell us that money is not the answer to everything. To possess much wealth brings along with it many challenges and even sorrows. (note 1 Timothy 6:9-10) The riches of this world hold no certainty ( 1 Timothy 6:17) that can be counted upon. This is why Jesus warned for us to be sure where it is we have laid up our treasures. ( Matthew 6:19-20) What is the treasure we have set our eyes upon? What are we striving to grasp and retain most? And what are we doing with that which we consider ours?
Jesus exhorted…
“(10) One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. (11) If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, WHO WILL ENTRUST TO YOU THE TRUE RICHES? (12) And if you have not been faithful in that which is another’s, WHO WILL GIVE YOU THAT WHICH IS YOUR OWN?” ( Luke 16:10-12 ESV)
Someone has described the challenge this way: “It is more difficult to manage riches well than to acquire them.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie]
Here are two questions that are proper to ask. [1] How am I managing what I presently have? [2] Am I striving to lay up treasure here or in Heaven?
Some people think that with money they can “live the life!” However, Paul pointed out that there is life and then there is LIFE! ( 1 Timothy 6:19) Jesus indicated there is treasure and then there is TREASURE! One is secure while the other is not. One lasts, but the other will perish.
What is the answer to the question of life’s pursuit? The answer to it all is to be RICH TOWARD GOD! ( Luke 12:21) In this way we will be amassing our wealth in Heaven where it is completely safe with Him. Unlike out bank accounts which are F.D.I.C. secured (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) our treasures in Heaven are H.D.E.G. insured (Heavenly Deposit Eternally Guaranteed). And we can unquestionably bank on that!
Have a great day KEEPING IN VIEW WHAT IS KEPT IN HEAVEN FOR US!
