Payment!
Some people have it all! They just haven’t PAID for it yet. “Buy now, pay later.” That is much the way it is in this life. We can buy furniture and appliances to begin enjoying right now and either pay for it monthly or sometimes not even begin the payments for a year or more. Though businesses have made it easy to buy stuff, how much of it is just about worn out before it is ever paid off?
Perhaps some of the things we feel best about are those things which we can enjoy, knowing they are already PAID for in full. Some people drive cars that may not be real fancy, but they’ll tell you with a big smile, “It’s PAID for.” They can drive it and appreciate it knowing they don’t have to continue making payments because that has already been taken care of. Oh, what a wonderful feeling that can be.
For some their motto in life seems to be “Play now. Pay Later.” And those who continue to reject Christ will ultimately pay dearly. (Romans
6:23) However, we can praise God it does not have to be that way, even though a debt of sin is acquired in this life.
In the prophecy through Isaiah regarding the coming Messiah, we read…
“(4) Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. (5) But HE WAS WOUNDED FOR OUR TRANSGRESSIONS; HE WAS CRUSHED FOR OUR INIQUITIES; UPON HIM WAS THE CHASTISEMENT THAT BROUGHT US PEACE, and with his stripes we are healed.” ( Isaiah 53:4-5 ESV)
Jesus PAID our debt of sin when He gave Himself on the cross. That debt is one which could never be PAID for ourselves. But His payment is adequate as we continue in a right relationship with Him. In Christ, our debt of sin is stamped “PAID IN FULL”. Because of that we can rejoice and feel good knowing, as Paul stated: “There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST JESUS.” ( Romans 8:1 ESV) Shouldn’t that make us smile?
Have a great day APPRECIATING WHAT IS ALREADY PAID FOR!
