Whose Child? (3 of 3)
It is important to know the truth regarding who our Father is, recognizing how we became His child through being united with Christ. But how do we reveal whose child we are?
With regard to my earthly father, that I am his child is very apparent. I look like him. Sometimes my wife even says I act like him. These are truths that those who know my father and know me find undeniable. Some have been amazed at the RESEMBLANCE!
When Jesus came to this earth, those to whom He came, those who were well aware of the promises and prophesies, should have recognized Him. Why didn’t they? Because they really didn’t know the Father. To know One was to know the Other. ( John 8:19)
Note what Jesus said regarding those in His family.
“(31) And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. (32) And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, ‘Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.’ (33) And he answered them, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ (34) And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, ‘HERE ARE MY MOTHER AND MY BROTHERS! (35) WHOEVER DOES THE WILL OF GOD, HE IS MY BROTHER AND SISTER AND MOTHER.’” ( Mark 3:31-35 ESV)
In Christ, one of the blessings we receive is that of a new family. (note Mark 10:29-30) And within this family we begin taking on a family RESEMBLANCE; characteristics of the Father in Whose image man was first created and which, in Christ, is being renewed. ( Colossians 3:10 & 2 Corinthians 3:18) We have been called to be “imitators of God, as beloved children.” ( Ephesians 5:1) The way we live our life reveals whether or not we are His children. (note 1 John 3:9-10)
Just as it was with Jesus, some might not know us because they do not know the Father. ( 1 John 3:1) However, we can be encouraged that we are known by the Father, and that is what matters most. May we continue to let His Divine RESEMBLANCE show.
Have a great day LIVING LIKE FATHER, LIKE CHILD!
