Character of His Word! (Part 5 of 5)

David wrote…
“(7) The LAW OF THE LORD IS PERFECT, reviving the soul; the TESTIMONY OF THE LORD is SURE, making wise the simple; (8) the PRECEPTS OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT, rejoicing the heart; the COMMANDMENT OF THE LORD IS PURE, enlightening the eyes; (9) the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the RULES OF THE LORD ARE TRUE, and RIGHTEOUS ALTOGETHER. (10) More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.” ( Psalm 19:7-10 ESV)

There are so many things in this life which can dazzle our eyes. For those who set their gaze on gold they may soon find themselves facing many distractions and having their focus drawn away from what should truly be valued. Worldly wealth does not bring ENLIGHTENMENT. Too many times worldly riches have blinded the eyes of those who have sought them. During the gold rush days the craving after the prospect of becoming rich led to risky decisions and, for some, the loss of life. How true it is that one must reckon with our Lord’s statement regarding what can a man give in exchange for his soul! ( Matthew 16:26) Where is the profit in gaining the whole world when one’s very self ends up being lost in the process? All that glitters is not gold. We must guard against being blinded by the allure of the worldly and fooled into thinking it holds a value for all things.

Jesus warned…
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MONEY.” ( Matthew 6:24 ESV)

Jesus implied the need of making a choice. If we drop one letter from “gold” it becomes a “god” which is exactly what worldly wealth has become to many. Who or what has become “Master” in our life?

David pointed out that God’s commands are better than even fine gold.
God’s commandments are pure. That is their essence. And because they are pure they have the power to bring true ENGLIGHTENMENT to the eyes. We need God’s Word to help bring all of life into proper perspective. It is through viewing life in His light that we can distinguish “fool’s gold” from that which will truly enrich our life. His Word leads us into godly living and it is godliness which has value for all things, both for this present life and the eternal life to come. ( 1 Timothy 4:8) May we continue to seek and accept the ENLIGHTENMENT of God’s Word so that we can see clearly for the journey that begins here and goes on into the eternal presence of God.

Have a great day WITH THE EYES OF THE HEART OPEN TO GOD’S WILL!
Carl
