Character of His Word! (Part 3 of 5)
David wrote…
“(7) The LAW OF THE LORD IS PERFECT, reviving the soul; the TESTIMONY OF THE LORD is SURE, making wise the simple; (8) the PRECEPTS OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT, rejoicing the heart; the COMMANDMENT OF THE LORD IS PURE, enlightening the eyes; (9) the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the RULES OF THE LORD ARE TRUE, and RIGHTEOUS ALTOGETHER. (10) More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.” ( Psalm 19:7-10 ESV)
It has been said that money talks. Mine says “Bye bye.” Money may speak to those who can be easily bought so that one may gain what they desire, but WISDOM understands the need of recognizing other’s rights (regardless of
stature) and the value of honesty and righteousness. Jesus told a parable of one who was rich, but the problem was he was not rich toward God. (Luke
12:21) He did not exercise WISDOM in his life. Gold may hold power and influence for one who possesses it, but it does not necessarily mean there is WISDOM. In WISDOM, people have learned to live with what the wealthy think they cannot live without. We can live without a lot of things, but God ’s Word is not one of them. We need His WISDOM.
Why should WISDOM be desired more than gold? Paul stated…
“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the UNCERTAINTY OF RICHES, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” ( 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV)
Hope is to be set on God and what He has revealed. Gold (wealth) holds too much uncertainty. But David declared that the “testimony of the LORD is SURE” and possesses the ability for “MAKING WISE the simple.” ( Psalm 19:7) Worldly wealth can be lost. The stock market can crash. Investments can go sour. It can be squandered. However, God’s Word is as eternal as He is. His testimony is sure and has the power to provide true WISDOM for life. And as we receive the wealth of His WISDOM, even as we freely and generously share it with others, our treasure of it does not decrease one bit. The WISDOM of God’s Word can be possessed by all who will accept it, regardless of level of society they may find themselves.
Is our life being bankrolled by the certain or the uncertain? May we continue to seek the wealth of WISDOM that comes from above. ( James 3:17-18) It is guaranteed to receive a good return.
Have a great day ACCEPTING THE CERTAINTY OF GOD’S WISDOM!
