Being Delighted!

What is it that delights us? What gives us a feeling of satisfaction? One of the things which brings me delight is when something WORKS. Whether it is a plan, a solution, a mechanical object, or a computer program; when IT WORKS out in the way it is supposed to, I am delighted. And when I am filled with that sense of feeling I will sit back (or stand back) and ponder the wonder of it all in my mind.

Some people find delight in the wrong things. They are focused on things which are really not working.

In Psalms we read…
“(1) Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; (2) but HIS DELIGHT IS IN THE LAW OF THE LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” ( Psalm 1:1-2 ESV)

Also…
“YOUR TESTIMONIES ARE MY DELIGHT; they are my counselors.” ( Psalm 119:24 ESV)

Again and again in the Psalms we read of the delight found in focusing on God’s Word. (i.e. 111:2; 112:1; 119:14, 16 ,35 ,47 ,70, 77, 92, 143, 174) Yes, God’s commands and testimonies are truly the counsel we need because IT WORKS! Statutes absolutely satisfying. Testimonies totally true. Words wholly wise.

Time after time as I have put God’s Word into practice I continue to be impressed with how His Way is right. IT WORKS! We can sit back (or stand back) and meditate on its wondrous power working in our own life and the way it impacts those around us as we live it.

May we continue to experience the lasting delight that comes through meditating and living by God’s counsel.
