The Evidence!

Sometimes people in search of evidence miss what is right under their own nose. Perhaps it is because they hold a bias that blinds them to the evidence. Or maybe it is because they just haven’t stopped to take a really good look around them.

We live in an area where it is enjoyable just to park oneself and take a look around. One can stand at one point, surveying around in all directions, and take in a spectacular view. From one vantage point it is possible to look out across the waters of our bay (Admiralty Inlet) and the Straight of Juan De Fuca, scan the peaks of a portion of two mountain ranges (the Cascades and Olympics), and marvel at the majesty of Mt. Baker and especially that of Mt. Rainier. It is all a view which I would have difficulty thinking of ever growing tired.

As one of the psalmists took a survey of the world around him he exclaimed…
“O LORD, HOW MANIFOLD ARE YOUR WORKS! IN WISDOM HAVE YOU MADE THEM ALL; the earth is full of your creatures.” (Psalm 104:24 ESV)

Everything I described above is only a small glimpse of all that God, in HIS WISDOM, created. Those waters are filled with much variety of life forms. Those mountain ranges also contain a multitude of types of life. Surveying God’s creation should never cease to wow us. His very creation declares HIS WISDOM and the evidence of His existence as we behold its intricate design, the dependency of one life form on another, and how each one fits into a specific environment. There are creatures made for the air, for the water, to crawl on the ground or burrow in and through it, to live in the trees, etc. So much variety, but all fitting together just as GOD’S WISDOM designed. No chance. No haphazardness. All planned and put in place. Wow! They are all God’s works and God’s creatures. They belong to Him. And as His they declare HIS WISDOM.

We too are a part of God’s manifold creation. What do we declare? HIS WISDOM? Our own? It is mankind in its own wisdom that is often guilty of throwing God’s creation out of balance. If we acknowledge we belong to Him, we ought to be revealing HIS WISDOM in the way live in this realm and seek to fulfill His purposes. May we join in with the rest of God’s creation to reveal HIS WISDOM, the evidence that He, the Great Sustainer of life, still exists.

Have a great day LIVING THAT GOD WILL BE KNOWN!

Keep or Share?

There are some things of which, when possessed, one is faced with the decision whether to keep for themselves or to share with others. To share would seem to naturally take away from the supply possessed. Therefore, to diminish what one has is given careful consideration; how much to keep and how much to share. But is there anything we can both keep and share without diminishing our own supply? There may be a number of things, one of which being love. We can love others without ever diminishing the love we have. Let us consider another specific thing for which this is true.

Someone has said, “Don’t keep the faith baby -- share it.” [source: bulletin clipping]

I understand the intent of the statement. Our FAITH is not something to be kept to ourselves. However, there is a sense in which FAITH is to be both kept and shared and it can be done without diminishing our supply. In fact, through the sharing of our FAITH it seems our own continues to grow.

Regarding Philemon, Paul stated…
“(4) I thank my God always when I remember you in my prayers, (5) because I hear of your love and of the faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus and all the saints, (6) and I pray that the SHARING OF YOUR FAITH MAY BECOME EFFECTIVE for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.” (Philemon 4-6 ESV)

And to the church at Colossae Paul wrote…
“(21) And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, (22) he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him, (23) IF INDEED YOU CONTINUE IN THE FAITH, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.” (Colossians 1:21-23 ESV)

May we “keep the FAITH” and continue “sharing our FAITH” as well. Let us seek to grow in a FAITH that is effective for both sustaining our lives and impacting those with whom it is shared. Just like love, such FAITH will provide great blessing to both the possessor and receiver.

Have a great day GROWING IN EFFECTIVE FAITH!

Good Advice!

When it comes to advice, would we rather give it than receive it? Is it surprising to find that many who generously dish it out are not very open to receiving the advice offered to them? Perhaps it is because (as someone has
suggested) “The trouble with good advice is that it usually interferes with your plans.” [source: bulletin clipping]

Solomon exhorted…
“(20) LISTEN TO ADVICE AND ACCEPT INSTRUCTION, that you may gain wisdom in the future. (21) Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but IT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE LORD THAT WILL STAND.” (Proverbs 19:20-21 ESV)

God has plans for us and we need to be mindful of what might be interfering with HIS PLANS. How much we desire to be a part of HIS PLANS will determine how ready we will be to accept His counsel. Since it is the “the purpose of the Lord” that is ultimately going to stand, isn’t it advisable to make sure we don’t make any plans that would interfere with what He has in mind for us?

May we remain open to the counsel of God’s Word, seeking to understand and see clearly HIS PLANS that have been established for our life now and for eternity. Since He is good (Luke 18:19), so is His advise. Drop an “o” from “good advice” and we have “God advice.” He gives the best! Let us take it!

Have a great day ALLOWING GOD’S PURPOSE TO PREVAIL IN OUR LIFE!

Key To Success!

There are some things which should not succeed because they are not good. However, some struggle being successful with even that which should succeed. What is necessary for success to take place?

Someone has suggested, “To succeed, you must be easy to start and hard to stop.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie]

Some are not successful because, for one reason or another, they never get started. Perhaps they think the task insurmountable (at least for them) and therefore decide they might as well not even begin. For others it may be that they quit at the first obstacle encountered.

Note the caution Gamaliel offered to the Jewish council concerning the Apostles.
“(38) So in the present case I tell you, keep away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; (39) but IF IT IS OF GOD, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OVERTHROW THEM. You might even be found opposing God!” So they took his advice, (40) and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.” (Acts 5:38-40 ESV)

Time would tell whether the Apostles’ work would succeed or not. The success of what man’s sole efforts and ideas are behind is most often short lived. However, with the things of God it is an entirely different matter.

How did the Apostles respond even though they faced such bold opposition?
“(41) Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. (42) And every day, in the temple and from house to house, THEY DID NOT CEASE TEACHING AND PREACHING JESUS AS THE CHRIST.” (Acts 5:41-42 ESV)

First of all, God was behind their work. Nevertheless, the Apostles still had to possess a WILLINGNESS to keep on keeping on with the mission they had been given. They did not stop! They refused to cease proclaiming the Lordship of Christ. And we have been called to do the same. Just like the Apostles, we will not meet success with every soul we meet. However, as we continue to hold out the Word of Life there will be those who are WILLING to accept and begin their transformation in Christ. If we do not start or if we fail to continue proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus, what should we expect? As we submit to the Will of God, let us be “easy to start and hard to stop”, understanding God is fully behind the work He has called us to do!

Have a great day KNOWING THE SUCCESS GOD BRINGS!

On My Mind?

What has been on our mind today? Do we sometimes have difficulty focusing because we have too many things on our mind? All those things we are trying to remember seem to get jumbled up and our fear is that because of it, we might forget something. But that’s what palm pilots and other electronic organizers, Day-timers ® (or other calendars), Post-it ® notes, and “To Do” lists are for. Recording the appointments and things to remember free up our mind to be able to focus on what we would rather THINK ABOUT or that which is of most importance. And what would that be?

In Psalms we read…
“O how I love your law! IT IS MY MEDITATION ALL THE DAY.” (Psalm 119:97 ESV)

The New Living Translation reads “…I THINK ABOUT IT ALL DAY LONG.”

Paul exhorted…
“(8) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, THINK ABOUT THESE THINGS.” (Philippians 4:8 ESV)

On what does our mind dwell throughout the day? With all the things we have to remember and deal with, we need to be careful we have not crowded out the things of God. His Word; something to THINK ABOUT morning, noon, and night. Anywhere, anytime, it is worthy of being kept on our mind. May we keep it there.

Have a great day THINKING ABOUT SUCH THINGS!

Character of His Word! (Part 5 of 5)

David wrote…
“(7) The LAW OF THE LORD IS PERFECT, reviving the soul; the TESTIMONY OF THE LORD is SURE, making wise the simple; (8) the PRECEPTS OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT, rejoicing the heart; the COMMANDMENT OF THE LORD IS PURE, enlightening the eyes; (9) the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the RULES OF THE LORD ARE TRUE, and RIGHTEOUS ALTOGETHER. (10) More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:7-10 ESV)

There are so many things in this life which can dazzle our eyes. For those who set their gaze on gold they may soon find themselves facing many distractions and having their focus drawn away from what should truly be valued. Worldly wealth does not bring ENLIGHTENMENT. Too many times worldly riches have blinded the eyes of those who have sought them. During the gold rush days the craving after the prospect of becoming rich led to risky decisions and, for some, the loss of life. How true it is that one must reckon with our Lord’s statement regarding what can a man give in exchange for his soul! (Matthew 16:26) Where is the profit in gaining the whole world when one’s very self ends up being lost in the process? All that glitters is not gold. We must guard against being blinded by the allure of the worldly and fooled into thinking it holds a value for all things.

Jesus warned…
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. YOU CANNOT SERVE GOD AND MONEY.” (Matthew 6:24 ESV)

Jesus implied the need of making a choice. If we drop one letter from “gold” it becomes a “god” which is exactly what worldly wealth has become to many. Who or what has become “Master” in our life?

David pointed out that God’s commands are better than even fine gold.
God’s commandments are pure. That is their essence. And because they are pure they have the power to bring true ENGLIGHTENMENT to the eyes. We need God’s Word to help bring all of life into proper perspective. It is through viewing life in His light that we can distinguish “fool’s gold” from that which will truly enrich our life. His Word leads us into godly living and it is godliness which has value for all things, both for this present life and the eternal life to come. (1 Timothy 4:8) May we continue to seek and accept the ENLIGHTENMENT of God’s Word so that we can see clearly for the journey that begins here and goes on into the eternal presence of God.

Have a great day WITH THE EYES OF THE HEART OPEN TO GOD’S WILL!

Character of His Word! (Part 4 of 5)

“If I only had more money I would be happy.” How many have centered their focus there? How many have viewed wealth as the true source of happiness and JOY? How many have REJOICED over winning a lottery and then found themselves bankrupt within a few years? JOY linked to such reveals itself, again and again, to be fleeting! In fact, wealth has brought sorrow and trials to many. There is the fear of it being stolen, family members being kidnapped and held for ransom, loss through bad investments, loneliness in an attempt to protect oneself, etc. After years of focusing on heaping up the wealth there is also often the sorrow over relationships that may have been neglected along the way.

Paul cautioned…
“For THE LOVE OF money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have WANDERED AWAY FROM THE FAITH and PIERCED THEMSELVES WITH MANY PANGS.” (1 Timothy 6:10 ESV)

Paul did not say the fault was with money, but rather the love of it being at the core of the problem. And because of that craving some have departed from God’s way and felt the piercing of much grief and sorrow. No real happiness. Certainly there may have been some fun, but no lasting JOY.

In contrast to the desire for gold, David noted that God’s precepts are right, His rules are true, and they are completely righteous. It is the pursuit of such that brings true and lasting REJOICING to the heart. Eternal JOY is the impact knowing God’s Way can have in our life. It is to know the relationship with God is real. It is to know that in that relationship and through the following of His commands that the eternal future is secure.
Therefore, in spite of whatever trials this life may bring, there can still be REJOICING. (note Matthew 5:12 and 1 Peter 1:6-7)

JOY cannot be bought. It can only be secured through living in a right relationship with God. His Word shows the way to live a JOYOUS life regardless of what might be going on around us. May we continue to JOYFULLY walk on in His Way. It is the only way to live without regret.

Have a great day FINDING THE LASTING JOY IN FOLLOWING GOD’S WILL!

Character of His Word! (Part 3 of 5)

It has been said that money talks. Mine says “Bye bye.” Money may speak to those who can be easily bought so that one may gain what they desire, but WISDOM understands the need of recognizing other’s rights (regardless of
stature) and the value of honesty and righteousness. Jesus told a parable of one who was rich, but the problem was he was not rich toward God. (Luke
12:21) He did not exercise WISDOM in his life. Gold may hold power and influence for one who possesses it, but it does not necessarily mean there is WISDOM. In WISDOM, people have learned to live with what the wealthy think they cannot live without. We can live without a lot of things, but God ’s Word is not one of them. We need His WISDOM.

Why should WISDOM be desired more than gold? Paul stated…
“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the UNCERTAINTY OF RICHES, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.” (1 Timothy 6:17 ESV)

Hope is to be set on God and what He has revealed. Gold (wealth) holds too much uncertainty. But David declared that the “testimony of the LORD is SURE” and possesses the ability for “MAKING WISE the simple.” (Psalm 19:7) Worldly wealth can be lost. The stock market can crash. Investments can go sour. It can be squandered. However, God’s Word is as eternal as He is. His testimony is sure and has the power to provide true WISDOM for life. And as we receive the wealth of His WISDOM, even as we freely and generously share it with others, our treasure of it does not decrease one bit. The WISDOM of God’s Word can be possessed by all who will accept it, regardless of level of society they may find themselves.

Is our life being bankrolled by the certain or the uncertain? May we continue to seek the wealth of WISDOM that comes from above. (James 3:17-18) It is guaranteed to receive a good return.

Have a great day ACCEPTING THE CERTAINTY OF GOD’S WISDOM!

Character of His Word! (Part 2 of 5)

God’s Word: perfect, sure, right, pure, true, and completely righteous.
Is that not the very essence of God Himself? And for that to be so, how could His Word be otherwise? But did you note the impact His perfect, sure, right, pure, true and righteous Word can have in our life?

In contrasting gold with the Word of God, we should recognize that gold can become corrupted and lose its value. Wealth is not the PERFECT solution in all situations. Money cannot buy everything. It cannot buy true love. It cannot purchase health. It cannot obtain eternal life. With riches there is limited value or lasting power. And our life can be COMPLETE without ever owning even a single ounce of gold.

Consider the PERFECT or COMPLETE character of God’s Word. It is just what we need relating to life now and eternity. What God has revealed pertains to both life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:3) God has provided His Word to bring COMPLETENESS to our life. The Creator of life knew we needed His Word to go along with it. Without His Word our life will not be COMPLETE.

David pointed to God’s PERFECT Word as that which has the power to bring REVIVAL TO OUR SOUL. James pointed out that God’s Word, planted within our life, is “able to save [our] souls.” (James 1:21) That is a COMPLETE REVIVAL that only God can provide.

Man’s laws sometimes create chaos and court battles. It often seems the more words there are to man’s regulations, the more loopholes some seem to find. God’s laws are PERFECT. And if we want to strive for His essence we need to focus on and submit to them.

Have a great day ALLOWING GOD TO BRING HIS COMPLETENESS TO OUR LIFE!

Character of His Word! (Part 1 of 5)

The potential for the impact of rules and regulations depends on our openness to them, as well as the character they themselves possess. If the character or essence is not good, how can good be expected to be instilled in those who would accept them? But if the character or essence is virtuous, that same character and essence should be stimulated in those who PURSUE THEM.

To be desired more than gold are the commands of God. Do we understand the contrast? Do we acknowledge the true essence of God’s Word and the great potential it has to impact our daily lives? It is our PURSUIT? Or are we going for the gold? James pointed out that the rich fade away in the midst of their PURSUITS. (James 1:11) If we want life that is lasting, it needs to be based upon that which is eternal.

Join with me over the next few days as we (Lord Willing) consider four characteristics of God’s Word and their impact on our life in contrast to what gold may have to offer. Let us be certain our LIFE PURSUIT is properly focused.

Have a great day BANKING LIFE ON THE ETERNAL!

Learning To Trust!

Do I trust God more today than I have in past? Yes! Do I still need to trust Him more? Most certainly! Each day God provides gives me the opportunity to trust Him more.

Moses wasn’t sure he was really the man God needed for the job when he was called from the burning bush. He had to be persuaded. But God had chosen him to lead Israel out of Egypt and to the promised land. God’s power was eventually displayed through Moses by the plagues God brought about. God’s ability to provide was also demonstrated in making it possible for the nation to cross the Red Sea while making it unsuccessful for Pharaoh’s army.
God provided food and water for the nation as they journeyed through the wilderness. And Moses had been in direct communication with God. How much trust did He have?

On one of the occasions when the Israelites complained about their food supply (they had eaten all the manna they wanted and desired to have some meat), God’s anger was kindled against the people. They remembered what they had had in Egypt and complained bitterly. Moses interceded for the people and God told Moses and seventy of the elders to prepare the people because they were going to eat meat.

We read…
“(21) But Moses said, ‘The people among whom I am number six hundred thousand on foot, and you have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month!’ (22) Shall FLOCKS AND HERDS be slaughtered for them, and BE ENOUGH FOR THEM? Or shall ALL THE FISH OF THE SEA be gathered together for them, and BE ENOUGH FOR THEM?’ (23) And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Is the LORD’S hand shortened? NOW YOU SHALL SEE WHETHER MY WORD WILL COME TRUE FOR YOU OR NOT.’” (Numbers 11:21-23 ESV)

Was Moses questioning God’s ability? It sounded like it. He was STILL LEARNING to completely trust God’s ability to provide, even for as large a need as feeding all those people.

Moses’ statement reminds me of the disciples when Jesus was going to feed the five thousand. Jesus asked Philip where they could buy bread to feed the people (John 6:5), though Jesus already knew what He was going to do. (John 6:6) And Philip acknowledged how much such a meal would cost.
(John 6:7) Was it an impossibility?

Note Andrew’s response.
“(8) One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to him, (9) ‘There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, BUT WHAT ARE THEY FOR SO MANY?’” (John 6:8-9 ESV)

Even after seeing other miracles Jesus had performed, the disciples were STILL LEARNING to trust in His ability. Their complete trust in Him came GRADUALLY as they witnessed His work and listened to His words. They watched and they saw marvelous things take place.

Trusting God is a LEARNING PROCESS. The more we experience life and see how His Ways work and how richly we are provided for, helps us to realize how much more we ought to place our trust in Him. We need to remember God’s ability is even greater than what we are able to imagine. (Ephesians 3:20) And the more we place our life in His hands the greater that trust can GROW.
May we keep our eyes of faith open as we continue to trust God more! We “shall see” what God brings true.

Have a great day RELEASING LIFE MORE AND MORE TO GOD!

Examples!

Whatever it might be that we are trying to illustrate or describe to someone, there is probably an example that can be drawn from life. We are surrounded by examples; some good and some bad. There are people who claim they don’t want to be an example. The problem is that one can’t help being an example. People watch. People are influenced. People will follow…something. Perhaps we might even be struck by the fact some people will follow after just about anything!

Everyone of us is an example of one sort or another. The real questions is -- of what? What kind of example is our life? Whether we lead as a good or a bad example there is someone who is likely to follow us. So -- WHERE are we leading?

Solomon stated…
“WHOEVER HEEDS INSTRUCTION IS ON THE PATH TO LIFE, but HE WHO REJECTS REPROOF LEADS OTHERS ASTRAY.” (Proverbs 10:17 ESV)

It would be godly instruction Solomon had in mind that places one on the path to life. Do we continue to be open to the instruction we need? To ignore God’s direction will ultimately leave us in a position to wander and WHERE we wander others will likely follow.

Bottom line, we must realize that some of our choices impact more than our own selves. Just like when we drive a car we have the responsibility for the lives of everyone in that car, so it is when others have looked at us as being in the “driver’s seat” as they follow our example. May we keep God in the “driver’s seat” of our own life so that those who follow will be lead in His direction.

Have a great day LEADING IN THE PATH OF LIFE!

Must Eat Too!

When someone spends time in the kitchen preparing a nutritious meal, it is generally expected that when the meal is brought to the table, the one doing the preparation will also join in to eat. What would you think about someone who prepared nutritious and tasty meals (other than a restaurant or catering situation), but refused to eat themselves? Would you question why they chose to not receive the benefit? Would you perhaps be hesitant to eat yourself, wondering if there was something wrong with the food? One who prepares meals can bring benefit to others. However, shouldn’t the one doing the preparation accept benefit for themselves as well?

I spend a lot of time on the preparation end of lessons. Including the daily “teEn-MAIL” focuses, I present at least ten lessons per week. But I learned a long time ago I needed to do more than just prepare lessons with others in mind. I also needed some reading just for me; Bible reading other than what is directly linked to lessons I would present. I needed to be nourished myself in order to nourish others. Though I find great personal benefit and satisfaction in it, I don’t just feast at the table with others. I do some eating alone in the “kitchen” as well.

Jesus cautioned the people regarding some of the teachers of that time with the following words.
“(2) ‘The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, (3) so practice and observe whatever they tell you -- but not what they do. For THEY PREACH, BUT DO NOT PRACTICE.’” (Matthew 23:2-3 ESV)

I appreciate the encouragement I receive from many who from time to time tell me a particular “teEn-MAIL” focus or lesson was just what they needed that day. Often it is what I needed too. Many of the “teEn-MAIL” focuses seem to be generated from my own PERSONAL morning Bible reading. God feeds me, I choose to eat myself, and then decide to share it with others as well.

For us to be prepared to share with others, we need to keep eating ourselves. We need to take God’s Word PERSONALLY, apply it to our life, and live it out. The “Good News” we share becomes much more convincing when we are seen to practice what we preach. May that be the picture of the life of each one of us.

Have a great day PERSONALLY LIVING GOD’S WORD OUT LOUD!

We Wonder!

There are many things in life we don’t understand or have difficulty accepting. We don’t always know God’s specific Will regarding the lives of those we love -- especially when it comes to releasing them in death. But we need to trust in the God Who truly cares and Who has a plan for His children.

I came across a passage in Isaiah which caught my attention this morning.
“(1) The righteous man perishes, and no one lays it to heart; devout men are taken away, while no one understands. For THE RIGHTEOUS MAN IS TAKEN AWAY FROM CALAMITY; (2) HE ENTERS INTO PEACE; they rest in their beds who walk in their uprightness.” (Isaiah 57:1-2 ESV)

Note this passage also from the New Living Translation.
“(1) The righteous pass away; the godly often die before their time. And no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that GOD IS PROTECTING THEM FROM THE EVIL TO COME. (2) FOR THE GODLY WHO DIE WILL REST IN PEACE.” (NLT)

Not understanding is acknowledged here. As much as we try, when it comes to the releasing of our loved ones to the grave, it is not easy to accept. It is with great reluctance that we bid that final farewell. But as much as we may try to hang onto our relationships, we don’t know all that the future here might hold for those dear to us and what they may have been spared. In Isaiah is the mention of being spared calamity or whatever evils might have been coming in the future. Being spared of that is a blessing for them, as well as the fact they can be at peace and rest.

What are we to do? Weep. The tears of sorrow are natural and even therapeutic. Accept the embraces of others. It is a reminder we are not alone. Grieve. Recognize that grieving is a part of the process. However, for us as Christians we don’t grieve as those who have no hope. (note 1 Thessalonians 4:13) We grieve while trusting in God’s goodness, mercifulness, and the assurance of His blessed promises. And we can find comfort and consolation there.

Though we will not understand all we would like to know, let us continue to trust in the One Who has the future of each of our lives all in view. May that bring us an abiding sense of comfort and peace.

Have a great day TRUSTING THE GOD WHO CARES AND KNOWS!

His Glory!

Solomon noted…
“In A MULTITUDE OF PEOPLE IS THE GLORY OF A KING, but without people a prince is ruined.” (Proverbs 14:28 ESV)

We understand that picture with regard to kingdoms and governments of this world. Without subjects, in what is there for a king or a prince to find satisfaction? Without a nation of people where would be any acknowledgement of the position of such a one? But if this is where kings and princes of the world find glory, how much more so it is with the One Whose throne has been established forever. (Hebrews 1:8)

Being a people who honor Christ the King, willing to serve Him as good citizens in His kingdom, and ready to eagerly follow His leadership; all that brings glory to Him and blessing to us. Recognizing our life and purpose for being is all about Him places us in a position where our Lord continues to receive the glory He is due.

Unlike the leaders of this world, our Lord will not be ruined by those who will not follow. His Sovereignty will not be diminished. Failure to follow will only bring ruin to those who refuse to acknowledge His position. However, those who continue to accept and follow under His leadership, He will eventually bring into His eternal glorious presence. May our life continually point to His Sovereignty.

Have a great day BEING BLESSED IN GLORIFYING OUR ETERNAL KING!

A Day For Love!

February fourteenth. Valentine’s Day. A day for LOVE? Just one day? Just one day out of three hundred sixty-five? One day for flowers, chocolates, candy hearts, teddy bears, cards, and sweet sayings? One day for those we LOVE to be told they are LOVED?

For those who truly LOVE and are LOVED, they don’t need a day. The flowers, cards, small tokens of LOVE and affection, and endearing words come more frequently than just once a year. True LOVE is endearing. True LOVE is enduring. True LOVE can’t keep quiet. True LOVE speaks. True LOVE acts. True LOVE is full of life.

That’s what the LOVE of God is all about. That’s the kind of LOVE He wants us to experience. And that’s the kind of LOVE He wants us to extend to others. It is not LOVE that waits to be deserved or merited. It is LOVE that decides to LOVE in spite of. It is LOVE that decides to LOVE because LOVE is what is needed.

That’s the kind of LOVE Paul described when he wrote…
“(4) Love is PATIENT and KIND; love DOES NOT ENVY OR BOAST; it is NOT ARROGANT (5) OR RUDE. It DOES NOT INSIST ON ITS OWN WAY; it is NOT IRRITABLE OR RESENTFUL; (6) it DOES NOT REJOICE IN WRONGDOING, but REJOICES WITH THE TRUTH. (7) Love BEARS ALL THINGS, BELIEVES ALL THINGS, HOPES ALL THINGS, ENDURES ALL THINGS. (8) Love NEVER ENDS.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
ESV)

What a list! What a description! A LOVE that is not self-centered, but other centered. It is the way God has displayed it. And it is because He LOVED that we also are to LOVE. (1 John 4:19) LOVE is God’s very essence! (1 John 4:8) And it is just as eternal as He is.

John encouraged…
“SO WE HAVE COME TO KNOW AND TO BELIEVE THE LOVE THAT GOD HAS FOR US. GOD IS LOVE, AND WHOEVER ABIDES IN LOVE ABIDES IN GOD, AND GOD ABIDES IN HIM.” (1 John 4:16 ESV)

LOVE! It’s not just for a day, but rather for life and eternity. May we continue to abide in it!

Have a great day LIVING A LOVE LIFE FOR GOD!

Whose Child? (3 of 3)

It is important to know the truth regarding who our Father is, recognizing how we became His child through being united with Christ. But how do we reveal whose child we are?

With regard to my earthly father, that I am his child is very apparent. I look like him. Sometimes my wife even says I act like him. These are truths that those who know my father and know me find undeniable. Some have been amazed at the RESEMBLANCE!

When Jesus came to this earth, those to whom He came, those who were well aware of the promises and prophesies, should have recognized Him. Why didn’t they? Because they really didn’t know the Father. To know One was to know the Other. (John 8:19)

Note what Jesus said regarding those in His family.
“(31) And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. (32) And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, ‘Your mother and your brothers are outside, seeking you.’ (33) And he answered them, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ (34) And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, ‘HERE ARE MY MOTHER AND MY BROTHERS! (35) WHOEVER DOES THE WILL OF GOD, HE IS MY BROTHER AND SISTER AND MOTHER.’” (Mark 3:31-35 ESV)

In Christ, one of the blessings we receive is that of a new family. (note Mark 10:29-30) And within this family we begin taking on a family RESEMBLANCE; characteristics of the Father in Whose image man was first created and which, in Christ, is being renewed. (Colossians 3:10 & 2 Corinthians 3:18) We have been called to be “imitators of God, as beloved children.” (Ephesians 5:1) The way we live our life reveals whether or not we are His children. (note 1 John 3:9-10)

Just as it was with Jesus, some might not know us because they do not know the Father. (1 John 3:1) However, we can be encouraged that we are known by the Father, and that is what matters most. May we continue to let His Divine RESEMBLANCE show.

Have a great day LIVING LIKE FATHER, LIKE CHILD!

Whose Child? (2 of 3)

Though the earth, everything in it, and every being who lives in it belongs to God (Psalm 24:1) because He is the Creator (a reality all will someday have to reckon with), the right to be called CHILDREN OF GOD is not enjoyed by everyone. (note John 1:12-13) In spite of the fact God has provided the means, the proper relationship has not been established by all.

Who is our Father? Do we want to know the truth? Do we know with certainty who our Father is? Can we know? The Scriptures imply we can.

How do we (or did we) become a CHILD OF GOD? The CHILD of a father becomes one either through procreation (being born into a family) or through adoption. Paul mentioned the concept of adoption in connection with both the nation of Israel (Romans 9:4) and Christians (Romans 8:15). Writing to Christians in Galatia, Paul also connected this plan of adoption with the coming of Christ to redeem us. (Galatians 4:4-5)

In the Galatian letter, Paul clearly pointed to when this relationship began.
“(24) So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. (25) But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, (26) for IN CHRIST JESUS YOU ARE ALL SONS OF GOD, through faith. (27) For as many of you AS WERE BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST HAVE PUT ON CHRIST. (28) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (29) And IF YOU ARE CHRIST’S, THEN YOU ARE ABRAHAM’S OFFSPRING, heirs according to promise.” (Galatians 3:24-29 ESV)

Paul clearly linked the becoming CHILDREN OF GOD to when we were baptized into Christ. This is when we put Christ on (were clothed with Him) so that in Him we could also be declared Abraham’s offspring. Remember we noted yesterday how the Jews Jesus spoke to made their claim to Abraham and then to God as being their Father. (John 8:39 & 41) When we were united with Christ in baptism it became so! It became the reality! It became the truth!
To stop short of the rebirth is to stop short of being brought into the life in Christ (Romans 6:3) and into the family of God. It may seem like a simple act of submission, but it is one which brought us into a new life (Romans 6:4; 2 Corinthians 5:17) and into a new family through the way opened up by Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Praise God for the means He has provided that we can be HIS CHILDREN and He our Father. It is the relationship He desires to share with us.

Have a great day BEING A PART OF GOD’S FAMILY!

Whose Child? (1 of 3)

It is sad when children have no idea who their FATHER is. There are choices made in our society today which have led up to many sad situations; mothers not knowing who the FATHER of their child is or “possible” FATHERS each claiming, “It’s not mine!” It is astonishing that such situations are even brought to television where all parties are confronted before the results of a DNA test are aired -- all done for “entertainment” purposes.

It is also sad when one may think they know who their FATHER is, but they do not. This is especially true in the sphere of spiritual relationships.

Jesus addressed some Jews who thought they knew, but did not. [I encourage you to turn and read the entire text (John 8:31-47) since I will only be quoting three verses here.]

These Jews focused on their heritage when they claimed…
“(39) They answered him, ‘ABRAHAM IS OUR FATHER.’ Jesus said to them, ‘If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing what Abraham did, ’” (John 8:39 ESV)

After Jesus pointed out how uncharacteristic their life was compared to Abraham, He continued to press His point until they responded with an even loftier claim.
“‘(41) You are doing what your father did.’ They said to him, ‘We were not born of sexual immorality. WE HAVE ONE FATHER -- EVEN GOD.’” (John 8:41
ESV)

Their claim was that they were not illegitimate children. They were children of God. He was their FATHER. He was their only FATHER. But was it truly so? If the statement is true, “Like FATHER, like son.”, who was their FATHER?

Jesus minced no words as He pointed out who their FATHER really was.
“‘(44) You are of YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL, and YOUR WILL IS TO DO YOUR FATHER’S DESIRES. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the FATHER OF LIES.’” (John 8:44 ESV)

Wow! What a charge! What a sad reality! They thought, but they did not know. Regardless of the claims, it is the truth which must be found. After all, “truth” was the subject that produced the discussion on this occasion; “truth [that] will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Do we want to know the truth? Do we truly know who our FATHER is? Can we know? The Scriptures imply we can. We may need to look up our adoption papers or re-birth certificate, but it is important that we recognize the truth. Let us seek to make certain God truly is OUR FATHER.

Have a great day MAKING CERTAIN OF THIS HEAVENLY RELATIONSHIP!

Our Example!

While growing up, when we were given tasks to fulfill, we may have been encouraged to focus on the way we did the job by the words, “A job worth doing is worth doing well.” We were being taught responsibility and helped to begin developing character in becoming dependable in what we did. Our parents wanted us to become people who could be given a task, knowing it would be done and done WELL. Not haphazardly. Not in a way merely to get by.
But completed in an adequate manner.

When God created the world and all the life within it, it was good. All that He planned worked WELL as long as mankind followed His commands. When Jesus came, how was what He did noted by those who were willing to accept? When His power was displayed in His actions, its completeness was noted.

This morning as I was reading through the seventh chapter of Mark, the following statement caught my attention.
“And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, ‘HE HAS DONE ALL THINGS WELL. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.’” (Mark 7:37 ESV)

God has done “all things WELL!” Our Lord exhibited the same character in all He has done! If we are to live godly lives -- being of Christ-like character -- then we ought to also strive to do “all things WELL!”

What kind of character is being revealed in our life? What are we doing?
Is it worth doing? Then it is worth doing WELL. Let us follow the example of our Lord and do it all to the glory of His Name. (note Colossians 3:17) This is one way in which we can follow on in His steps. And by living such we can look forward to hearing the words, “WELL done!” (Matthew 25:21)

Have a great day WORKING TO THE GLORY OF GOD!

My Job!

There was a certain sea captain and his chief engineer who argued over which of them was most important to the ship. Failing to agree with each other, they decided to swap places. The Chief ascended to the bridge while the Captain went down into the engine room. A couple hours later the Captain suddenly appeared on the deck covered with oil and soot. “Chief!” he yelled, wildly waving a monkey wrench in the air. “You’ll have to come down. I can’t make ’er go!” The Chief quickly responded, “Of course you can’t. We’re aground!” [source: adapted from bulletin clipping]

We like to think we are significant. We like to feel our part is important. However, we get in trouble when we begin to slight others by thinking our function is the most important; that we could get by without them, but they could never make it without us doing our part.

In Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth he presented a wonderful analogy of the one body with its many parts all serving different functions. His purpose in writing was to help these brethren realize how they needed to work together in a unified way for the COMMON GOOD. Each part of the body (physical or spiritual) is necessary for the BENEFIT OF THE WHOLE. Each part is important in fulfilling the role for which it was created. Every part belongs. Each is to focus on performing its important function. To be without one impacts THE WHOLE. And if the whole body were made up of one single member fulfilling one function, how limited the body would be! (read through 1 Corinthians 12:14-26)

Can you imagine what would happen if our ears and feet switched places? They are where God placed them to do that for which they were designed. And both are important in fulfilling their particular role for the BENEFIT OF THE WHOLE BODY. Would we say that either of them is not important?

As Paul used the analogy of the body in his Roman letter, he stated…
“(4) For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, (5) so we, though many, are ONE BODY IN CHRIST, and INDIVIDUALLY MEMBERS ONE OF ANOTHER.” (Romans 12:4-5 ESV)

We are significant. We are important. We have a function to fulfill within the body of Christ. But let us keep in perspective the BENEFIT we receive from the other members of the body so that we don’t begin to think others are less important. With this in mind, let is humbly continue to do our part for the BENEFIT OF THE WHOLE. That’s my job. It is also yours. That is the way God desires it to be. And that is of utmost importance!

Have a great day MINDFUL OF YOUR PART WITH OTHERS!

Out of This World!

When we talk about something being “out of this world” we are generally talking about something that appears extraordinary. Perhaps it is that which seems OUT OF PLACE in this world because it is of a quality above what is commonly associated with the world. It’s essence may even be that which we would associate with another place because, though it is here, there is something about it that just doesn’t allow it to invisibly blend in with the environment around it. For some reason it sticks out. Perhaps its characteristics that will not allow it to FIT IN strike us as being like trying to place a square peg in a round hole. It won’t work unless it is reshaped to fit the hole.

As Jesus neared the time of His arrest and crucifixion, in His prayer for His disciples and for those who would believe their testimony, Jesus prayed…
“(14) I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are NOT OF THE WORLD, just as I am NOT OF THE WORLD. (15) I do not ask that you take them OUT OF THE WORLD, but that you keep them from the evil one. (16) They are NOT OF THE WORLD, just as I am NOT OF THE WORLD.”
(John 17:14-16 ESV)

Jesus referred to them as being no more of the world than He was. They had been worldly men. They had been involved in jobs and lives as others in the world. But Jesus had brought a new essence into their lives. He had come from Heaven and elevated them by the work given them to do. And because of their new found relationship with Jesus, they no longer fit in invisibly with society around them. They had a new nature which was beginning to stand out in ways that would be noticed by others. We see this most as their ministry began following our Lord’s ascension back into Heaven. (i.e. Acts
4:13)

This world may try to reshape us to make us fit into the hole it has made for us. However, in Christ, we have become a “new creation”. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Is that truly becoming more and more the essence of our life? Are we gradually being renewed more and more into the image of Christ? If so, it should not surprise us when we at times feel we are having difficulty FITTING IN. We are not to be of this world any more than Jesus was. We have a higher calling. We are to live in accordance with a godly essence because we now have a heavenly citizenship. May it be seen to the glory of God.

Have a great day ENCOURAGED HOW GOD CAN TRANSFORM THE ORDINARY!

Being Delighted!

What is it that delights us? What gives us a feeling of satisfaction? One of the things which brings me delight is when something WORKS. Whether it is a plan, a solution, a mechanical object, or a computer program; when IT WORKS out in the way it is supposed to, I am delighted. And when I am filled with that sense of feeling I will sit back (or stand back) and ponder the wonder of it all in my mind.

Some people find delight in the wrong things. They are focused on things which are really not working.

In Psalms we read…
“(1) Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; (2) but HIS DELIGHT IS IN THE LAW OF THE LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:1-2 ESV)

Also…
“YOUR TESTIMONIES ARE MY DELIGHT; they are my counselors.” (Psalm 119:24 ESV)

Again and again in the Psalms we read of the delight found in focusing on God’s Word. (i.e. 111:2; 112:1; 119:14, 16 ,35 ,47 ,70, 77, 92, 143, 174) Yes, God’s commands and testimonies are truly the counsel we need because IT WORKS! Statutes absolutely satisfying. Testimonies totally true. Words wholly wise.

Time after time as I have put God’s Word into practice I continue to be impressed with how His Way is right. IT WORKS! We can sit back (or stand back) and meditate on its wondrous power working in our own life and the way it impacts those around us as we live it.

May we continue to experience the lasting delight that comes through meditating and living by God’s counsel.

Have a great day FINDING SATISFACTION IN THE COUNSEL OF GOD!

Not A Foolish Fueler!

Sometimes we run into a grouchy or angry person during the course of a day’s activities. Do we respond to them in an UNDERSTANDING way or do we instead end up fueling what they are already feeling? Have we every stopped to wonder if they started out the day in that kind of mood or if perhaps there were a number of things experienced which gradually fed the attitude being displayed? Consider our own life. When we end up in a bad mood, is it like a switch was suddenly turned on, did we just decided at some moment “I think I’ll be a grouch for a while”, or were there various incidents which led up to that state?

Solomon exhorted…
“Whoever is slow to anger HAS GREAT UNDERSTANDING, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.” (Proverbs 14:29 ESV)

Perhaps the first thing the truly UNDERSTANDING person does is honestly admits how such a disposition may arise in their own life. With that awareness, when the first pangs of frustration in an encounter with such a person are felt, rather than getting angry themselves, there is the UNDERSTANDING that this person may have had earlier encounters in the day that did not go too well. We may be talking about a waiter or waitress who isn’t presently giving us the service we expected, the not so pleasant checker at the grocery store, a fellow employee at work, a classmate at school, a teacher, a parent, a child, etc. The UNDERSTANDING person gives them the benefit of the doubt as thought is given to the possibility that other things may have fed the soured attitude presently being displayed. Why add to it when being slow to anger may give this person the chance to take a much needed breath and calm down.

May we respond to others in ways which, instead of fueling, will help to put a damper on the churning fire within that might have been kindled by others. Our kindness and patience not only has the potential to help transform their mood, but in the process will also spare others whom they will encounter through the rest of the day. Remember there can be great power in a soft answer. (Proverbs 15:1)

Have a great day REVEALING WISDOM IN RESPONDING!

For What Purpose?

As the time of the feast of the Passover neared, there was an expectation that Jesus would make an appearance. Many were asking about Him and WATCHING. (John 11:55-56) After Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, we find a reference to some Greeks who also came to worship during the feast.

John recorded…
“So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, ‘Sir, WE WISH TO SEE JESUS.’” (John 12:21 ESV)

Here were Greeks who wanted to see Jesus. I assume they were genuinely interested. However, with many of the Jewish leaders, their seeking was for a different reason.

Mark recorded…
“(1) Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there with a withered hand. (2) And THEY WATCHED JESUS, to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so THAT THEY MIGHT ACCUSE HIM.” (Mark 3:1-2 ESV)

We see, then, that during the time of Jesus’ walk on earth, various groups and individuals wanted to see Jesus and WATCHED HIM for diverse reasons. There were these Jews who WATCHED His actions in search of cause for accusation. Herod was glad to see Him because he hoped to have the opportunity to see some sign or miracle from Him. (Luke 23:8) Many came to be healed of diseases. (Mark 3:9-10) Zacchaeus wanted desperately enough to see Jesus that he climbed a tree to WATCH Him go by. (Luke 19:3-4)

What was the impact of having WATCHED Jesus? Some left angry and ready to plot His death. Herod, perhaps, was quite disappointed, for he mocked Jesus and sent Him back to Pilate. Those healed went on their way rejoicing and sharing with others what Jesus had done and of the great power they witnessed. And Zacchaeus’ encounter with Jesus changed his life for good.

It appears Jesus was WATCHED or sought out because, for some, He was a threat. For others He was an interesting person. While, yet for others He brought goodness and hope to life. And it appears that the purpose behind the WATCHFUL eye is what determined the response.

Why would we WATCH Jesus? Why are we be inclined to take a look at His life? When we read through the Gospels, for what are we truly looking? As we view the walk He walked and the thought He taught, are we seeking a pattern of righteousness for our own life? Are we sufficiently impacted to accept His teaching and follow His example?

Let us consider why we want to see Jesus. Whatever the genuine purpose is will determine the kind of response we will have to what we see. May we genuinely seek to see Jesus for righteous reasons so that when this life is over we will have the opportunity to also see Him as He truly is.

Have a great day WITH A BLESSED VIEW TOWARD JESUS!

Don't Blow It!

Have you ever been a participant in a balloon blowing contest? With every PUFF of air, the balloon gets larger and larger, until it finally pops. However, for the participants, there may be a bit of apprehension due to the uncertainty of the point at which the balloon ceases its stretching and explodes. When this occurs, there is often more than the “blower” who jumps. Involvement in gossip is about the same.

Someone has stated… “Gossip is like a balloon, it grows bigger with every puff.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie]

When we are faced with gossip, do we “blow it” either by becoming guilty of adding our PUFF and passing it along or by failing to squelch it? In order for gossip to cease, we should be careful we are not adding wind to it. Perhaps we can even find ourselves in a position to take some of the air away in order to deflate the tale and the potential damage that could be done. Otherwise, with every PUFF of the story, the tale gets bigger and bigger until it finally explodes. And who knows who all might be startled at that point and the destruction that can be done?

Solomon wrote…
“For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is NO WHISPERER, QUARRELING CEASES.” (Proverbs 26:20 ESV)

Other translations refer the “whisperer” as a “talebearer” (KJV, NKJ) or “gossip” (NIV, NLT). The exhortation is to not be guilty of adding fuel that keeps the gossip going. It’s not kind. It’s not right. And the damage can be irreparable. Let us not blow it!

Have a great day SPEAKING WHAT IS BENEFICIAL!

A Willing Spirit!

At an early age, I remember our weekly allowance given to my brothers and I with the understanding that part of it was to be set aside as a contribution to the church. I also remember at one point when the congregation was asked to increase the contribution for some particular purpose (I don’t recall what) that my parents told us if we wanted to increase our contribution, they would increase our allowance so that we could. What our parents were doing was teaching us that GIVING to help support the ministry of the church was something to give thought to and plan for. And they left the choice of the amount up to us so as to also help us learn to GIVE willingly rather than under compulsion.

Reading through Exodus 35 and 36 this morning reminded me of the spirit with which the nation of Israel gave to provide materials for the building of the tabernacle and the making of the priestly garments. The GIVING was to be a freewill offering. And as the giving progressed we read the phrases “heart stirred” (35:21), “spirit moved” (35:21), “willing heart” (35:22), “hearts stirred” (35:26), and “heart moved” (35:29), all in association with this “freewill offering to the LORD.” (35:29) There were also those whose heart was stirred (36:2) to do the work. But one of the most impressive outcomes of the generosity of the people was another need. This need was for the people to be “restrained from bringing” any more because there was enough to do the work and more. (read Exodus 36:3-7)

You might consider your congregation and wonder, “how often would that happen?” Though the congregation I work with is small, we have some very generous GIVERS. There have been times (in the almost twenty years we have been here) that needs have come up to which the congregation not only rose to the occasion, but beyond it. I don’t know how much each individual GIVES and I don’t make that my business. I’ll let our treasurer count the money and pay the bills. But as I read bulletins from some larger congregations I am often struck by how “under budget” the weekly contribution frequently seems to be. I am also struck when I hear of individuals withholding their contribution because they didn’t like something the preacher said or are mad at someone or something else. I believe in such cases some personal heart examination needs to take place. [Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox and get back to the point of today’s focus.]

As we GIVE weekly (not weakly) to support the work of the church, is our “heart stirred” and “spirit moved” to GIVE willingly? Though we may not know what others GIVE we are to be mindful of our part, remembering that our GIVING is a statement of thanksgiving to the God who has richly blessed us both physically and spiritually. As we consider the generosity of our God and the fact He has GIVEN us the best gifts, may we be moved to not simply offer God our “leftovers”. Rather, let us pray, plan, and purpose in our heart what we will GIVE to support His work.

Paul exhorted…
“(6) The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. (7) Each one must GIVE AS he has MADE UP his MIND, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER.” (2 Corinthians 9:6-7 ESV)

Bowing To!

How often have we watched a television program or movie where the focus centered on a jury deliberating a verdict for a trial, wanting so much to get their job over with, but one juror refused to see things as the rest of the group. They had all heard the same testimony, listened to the cross examination of witnesses, and seen all the same evidence presented. But as the task of deciding guilt or innocence was begun, everyone except one saw it the same way. Then the PRESSURE was turned on to try to sway the lone juror to give in and get it over with. Discussion took place, a vote was taken, and still the one juror stood alone. More PRESSURE was applied. Frustration was made evident. It might have become easier to cave in and go along with the rest. But the lone juror really believed they were right regardless of what the others said. Was it stubbornness? Was it pride? Was it principle?

God knows the PRESSURE others can place on us to conform to their wishes or points of view. Even when He gave Israel the Law, God warned regarding going against that which was right and according to truth, regardless of what others did or said.

We read…
“(1)You shall not spread a false report. You shall not join hands with a wicked man to be a malicious witness. (2) You shall NOT FALL IN WITH THE MANY to do evil, nor shall you bear witness in a lawsuit, SIDING WITH THE MANY, so as to pervert justice, (3) nor shall you be partial to a poor man in his lawsuit.” (Exodus 23:1-3 ESV)

The majority are not always right. The majority do not always want what God wants. We are to be careful not to bow to the PRESSURE. To say “But everyone’s doing it” may be cause alone to steer away from it.

Remember Jesus warned by use of a contrast…
“(13) Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are MANY. (14) For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are FEW.” (Matthew 7:13-14 ESV)

We are not to take the easy way, but rather the RIGHT WAY. We are to guard against simply going with the flow of those around us. We are to bow to God, not to the PRESSURES of the world.

Have a great day STANDING FIRM FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!

His Credentials!

When someone is being considered for a job, credentials relating to the tasks to be performed are considered. If care is to be provided for children, past experience and credentials relating to child care are looked into. When someone is interviewed for offering home health care, credentials relating to those functions would be requested. And whatever the job, knowing that the one given it has the proper credentials offers the assurance of PEACE OF MIND when things are in their hands.

In the Psalms we read…
“(1) I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? (2) MY HELP COMES FROM THE LORD WHO MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH.” (Psalm 121:1-2 ESV)

Do we keep God’s credentials in mind? Do we understand them enough that we can truly have PEACE OF MIND with our life entrusted to His care? The psalmist here in effect was pointing out… “If God (the Maker of heaven and earth) could do all that, what problem should He have caring for little old me? My help comes from Him!”

We trust people with lesser credentials than God’s. Let us learn to accept the PEACE OF MIND we can have in entrusting ourselves to His continuing care that includes a glorious deliverance into eternity.

Have a great day KNOWING GOD IS RIGHT FOR THE JOB!
